BFP REGION 8 PERSONNEL COMPLETE RDANA TRAINING

Tacloban City - September 04, 2026 - Under the steadfast leadership of Regional Director FCSUPT ALDWIN M SALAZAR, DSC, the officers and personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection Region 8 successfully completed the Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (RDANA) Training Course conducted from September 1–4, 2026.

The 32-hour technical training, facilitated through the Office of Civil Defense Regional Office VIII in coordination with Task Force Ayuda, 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, aimed to enhance participants’ skills in assessing disaster impacts and identifying immediate needs to support effective response and recovery efforts.

Among the BFP personnel who completed the training were FINSP JASPER M OPADA, FINSP JUDE JOCYRIL S ALCOSEBA, FINSP LESSED DJECHRI G PIOQUINTO , SFO2 Glenn B Punzalan, FO3 Jerry Gwen B Guia, FO2 Francisco E Pedrosa Jr., and FO1 Romark B Padrilan.

The successful completion of the course underscores BFP Region 8’s commitment to strengthening the capabilities of its personnel and fostering effective inter-agency coordination toward a more responsive and disaster-resilient Eastern Visayas.

Under the steadfast leadership of Regional Director FCSUPT ALDWIN M SALAZAR, DSC, the Bureau of Fire Protection reminds the public to remain vigilant during hot and dry weather. Avoid burning dried leaves, grass, and garbage; properly dispose of cigarette butts; clear combustible materials from your surroundings; and keep ignition sources away from fire-prone areas.

Remember, fire prevention starts with simple acts of caution and responsibility. If you spot a grass fire or wildland fire, immediately report it to the nearest BFP fire station or call 911. Together, let us protect our communities and prevent grass and wildland fires.

BFP REGION 8 JOINS REGIONAL CEREMONIAL DRILL FOR NATIONWIDE SCHOOL SAFETY INITIATIVE

Tacloban City – September 3, 2026 – Strengthening inter-agency coordination and preparedness for emergencies in schools, the Bureau of Fire Protection Region 8, under the leadership of Regional Director FCSUPT ALDWIN M SALAZAR, DSC, participated in the Regional Ceremonial Drill on the Nationwide Simultaneous School Safety for Active Attack Incidents at Scandinavian National High School, Tacloban City.

Leading the BFP delegation was Assistant Regional Director for Operations FSSUPT ELLAFIL A LIBARNES, DSC, together with Regional Operations Division Acting Chief and Special Rescue Force Chief FCINSP VIC LEONEL L MACASIL and Tacloban City Fire Marshal FCINSP DARREN P BACLEA-AN.

The drill brought together key regional agencies, including DepEd, DSWD, DOLE, DILG, RDRRMO, NAPOLCOM, BFP, OCD, and PNP, to strengthen coordinated response mechanisms and demonstrate their respective roles during active attack incidents.

During the post-drill critique, FSSUPT LIBARNES expressed appreciation to the school and participants while providing observations and recommendations to further enhance emergency preparedness and response. Meanwhile, FCINSP MACASIL highlighted the importance of the 911 Emergency Hotline in ensuring timely reporting and prompt emergency response.

The BFP Region 8 continues to support collaborative efforts in promoting safer, more prepared, and resilient schools and communities across Eastern Visayas.

BFP REGION 8 JOINS BARANGAY OUTREACH PROGRAM AND CRIME PREVENTION SEMINAR

Tacloban City – September 3, 2026 – Under the guidance of Regional Director FCSUPT ALDWIN M SALAZAR, DSC, BFP Region 8 personnel led by SFO3 Janele H Fidel, Admin Staff of the Regional Community Relations Section, together with personnel from the Tacloban City Fire Station, participated in the Barangay Outreach Program and Crime Prevention Seminar organized by the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) at the Brgy. Calanipawan Covered Court, Tacloban City.

The activity brought together various government agencies to promote public awareness, strengthen community engagement, and encourage collaborative efforts toward crime prevention and public safety.

As part of the program, BFP personnel shared essential fire safety and preventive measures, emphasizing the importance of creating a Community Fire Auxiliary Group (CFAG) to strengthen fire prevention, preparedness, and response efforts at the barangay level.

The participants were also oriented on the activation of the 911 emergency hotline in Region 8, which provides the public with an accessible channel for reporting emergencies and requesting immediate assistance. BFP personnel likewise reminded residents to contact the nearest fire station immediately during fire incidents to facilitate a prompt response, rather than prioritizing Facebook Live or social media posts.

Through its participation, BFP Region 8 continues to strengthen partnerships with government agencies and local communities while promoting fire safety awareness, emergency preparedness, and responsible action during emergencies.

BFP REGION 8 JOINS RDC VIII-DAC 3RD QUARTER MEETING

Tacloban City - September 03, 2026 - Under the guidance of the Regional Director, FCSUPT ALDWIN M SALAZAR, DSC, personnel of the Regional Plans and Programs Division (RPPD) participated in the 3rd Quarter Meeting of the Regional Development Council VIII–Development Administration Committee (RDC VIII-DAC) held at Felipina Hall, DEPDev VIII, Government Center, Palo, Leyte today.

The meeting provided a platform for member-agencies to discuss regional development concerns, programs, and initiatives, and strengthen inter-agency coordination toward responsive and effective governance.

BFP Region 8’s participation highlights its commitment to collaborative planning and initiatives that support public safety, disaster resilience, and the welfare of communities across Eastern Visayas.

TACLOBAN CITY— SEPTEMBER 2, 2026 — The Bureau of Fire Protection Region 8, through Regional Director, FCSUPT ALDWIN M SALAZAR, DSC, participated in EV Connect: An Eastern Visayas Government-Business Dialogues with HON. PHILIP LO, Secretary and Presidential Assistant for the Visayas, Office of the President, held at Summit Hotel Tacloban and organized by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tacloban-Leyte, Inc. (PCCI-TLI) and the Tacloban Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Inc.

The gathering brought together representatives from government agencies and institutions, as well as business and private sector leaders across Eastern Visayas, providing an avenue to exchange perspectives on the Administration's plans, priorities, and development agenda for Region VIII.

The dialogue underscored the importance of strengthened collaboration between government and the private sector in advancing public safety, emergency preparedness, and fire protection, key components in supporting sustainable growth and resilient communities.

BFP Region 8 remains committed to working with government and private sector partners in fostering a safer, more resilient, and progressive Eastern Visayas.
