DTI Sultan Kudarat Strengthens Local MSMEs Through Seminar on Product Packaging and Labeling, IPO Orientation, and Consumer Welfare Advocacy

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Sultan Kudarat, through Negosyo Center Lutayan, conducted a seminar on Product Packaging and Labeling, Intellectual Property Office (IPO) Orientation, and Consumer Welfare Advocacy on May 26, 2026, at the DTI Negosyo Center Office, Municipal Building, Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat.

The activity gathered a total of 15 participants, consisting of 10 food product business owners and 5 aspiring entrepreneurs from various barangays in the municipality. The seminar aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge and practical tools to enhance business competitiveness, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote sustainable enterprise development.

During the session on Product Packaging and Labeling, participants were oriented on the importance of developing attractive, informative, and compliant product labels and packaging that meet market and regulatory requirements. As part of the hands-on assistance provided, five customized product labels were developed for selected MSME food products.

Ms. Rhea Ledesma, Business Counselor of Negosyo Center Lutayan, also conducted an orientation on intellectual property protection, highlighting the importance of safeguarding business names, brands, logos, and other intellectual assets through appropriate registration and protection mechanisms.

In addition, a Consumer Welfare Advocacy session was conducted to raise awareness among participants on consumer rights and responsibilities, fair business practices, and the importance of maintaining product quality and customer trust.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) โ€“ Sultan Kudarat, through the Shared Service Facilities (SSF) Program, assisted personnel from the BSMED during the on-the-spot monitoring of selected SSF projects on June 2,2026, namely: (1) the SSF for Muscovado Processing of the Sugarcane Planters and Muscovado Processors Association; (2) the Food Laboratory Testing, Processing and Toll Packaging Center of SKSUโ€“Isulan; (3) the SSF for Chili Processing Center of the Isulan Free Farmers Biofarming and Producers Cooperative; and (4) the Mushroom Production and Processing Center of SKSUโ€“Lutayan.
The monitoring activity aimed to assess whether the projects remain operational, whether all SSF facilities are complete, functional, and properly utilized, whether the documents comply with program requirements, and whether the projects are income-generating and have potential for expansion. They also evaluated the cooperatorsโ€™ operational needs and identified gaps in facilities that may be considered in future DTI assistance and project proposals.
This activity ensures that government resources provided through the SSF Program continue to contribute to the productivity, competitiveness, and sustainability of beneficiary cooperatives and organizations, while promoting inclusive economic growth and supporting the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the province.
