Dr. Jesrelljane A. Amper, CVAARRDEC R&D Cluster Coordinator, together with consortium support staff Mr. Leven C. Bentulan and Ms. Conchita M. Lorejo, participated in the stakeholder consultation meeting on Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs), attended by representatives from LGU Tagbilaran, LGU Dauis, BFAR, ERB, PICW-WQMA, and the University of the Philippines Diliman Marine Science Institute (UP MSI).

The meeting featured the presentation of research findings on HABs and their implications on coastal ecosystems, water quality, and the livelihoods of fisherfolk. Discussions underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration among local government units, academic institutions, and partner agencies in addressing emerging environmental concerns through science-based interventions and evidence-informed policy recommendations.

The consultation also opened opportunities for future collaboration among CVAARRDEC member institutions, particularly the academe, in supporting phytoplankton monitoring and related studies through student research, thesis initiatives, and collaborative research activities. Such partnerships are expected to generate valuable scientific information, provide meaningful learning opportunities for students, and contribute to sustainable coastal and marine resource management in the region.

The Bahaginan sa Kaalaman: Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) Knowledge Sharing Event was successfully conducted on June 3, 2026 at Reyna’s the Haven and Gardens, Tagbilaran City, Bohol. The one-day activity brought together CVAARRDEC member institutions, farmers, Municipal Agriculturists, agricultural extension workers, researchers, and representatives from government and non-government organizations through both onsite and online participation. The event served as a platform for sharing local experiences, best practices, and initiatives related to climate-smart agriculture in Central Visayas.

Mr. Ian H. Egam, Science Research Specialist II of the Bohol Agricultural Promotion Center, DA-RFO 7, presented the Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture (AMIA) Program, highlighting the impacts of climate change, adaptation and mitigation strategies, and climate-smart technologies and approaches that can strengthen agricultural resilience. An interactive open forum followed, providing participants with the opportunity to exchange insights, experiences, and practical recommendations.

As part of the activity, participants were grouped into multi-sectoral teams composed of researchers, farmers, Municipal Agriculturists, agricultural extension workers, and other stakeholders. Each group identified pressing issues and challenges affecting their communities and collaboratively discussed possible solutions, opportunities for partnership, and future collaborative initiatives to support climate-resilient agriculture in the region. The workshop provided a valuable opportunity to level off perspectives, generate ideas, and strengthen linkages among stakeholders.

Ms. Kathlyn L. Quion, ITSO Director of BISU Bilar Campus, synthesized the key discussions and highlighted the way forward for future collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Ivy Corazon A. Mangaya-ay, CVAARRDEC Consortium Director, expressed her appreciation to the organizers, resource persons, and participants for their active engagement and valuable contributions. She underscored the importance of the activity as a meaningful avenue to directly engage with farmers and agricultural stakeholders, whose experiences and insights serve as valuable sources of information for shaping responsive research, extension, and development initiatives. Dr. Mangaya-ay further emphasized that stronger collaboration among researchers, extension workers, local government units, and farming communities is vital in developing evidence-based, climate-resilient, and sustainable agricultural programs that address the needs of the sector and contribute to regional development.
