DILG Bohol joins the 2026 National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) in honoring the invaluable contributions of women across our communities. Anchored on the recurring campaign banner, “WE for Gender Equality and an Inclusive Society,” the celebration highlights the continuing need for compassionate, unified networks to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE).

Under the sub-theme, “Lead like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”, the celebration highlights the distinctive leadership qualities of the Babaylans—women leaders in pre-colonial Philippines whose authority was grounded in wisdom, empathy, mediation, and moral guidance rather than force or hierarchy.

DILG Bohol encourages everyone to join the celebration, amplify women’s voices, and champion initiatives that empower women to lead with heart and purpose.

Happy Women’s Month!

READ | More Women Are Calling 911 and Getting Help, DILG Says

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) assured the public that the country’s Unified 911 system is fully prepared to respond to violence against women and children cases, with clear protocols in place to ensure swift, coordinated, and confidential assistance.

“Ngayon, mas dumami ang tumatawag na VAWC-related cases. Mas namo-monitor natin at naaaksyunan ngayon dahil dito sa bago nating Unified 911 na single hotline number na,” said Emergency 911 National Office Executive Director Francis Fajardo.

Fajardo reported that Unified 911 received more than 5,000 VAWC-related calls in 2025 alone, a clear sign that more victims are reaching out and that the system is responding.

Since the launch of the modernized Unified 911 hotline in September 2025, VAWC-related calls have increased significantly and now average between 300 and 500 calls per month.

“If you experience violence, itawag n’yo agad sa 911. May protocol tayo d’yan na nasisigurado natin na ang reklamo ay matutugunan natin nang mabilis,” Fajardo said.

He emphasized that all reports are handled with strict confidentiality and processed in accordance with established response procedures.

Under the Unified 911 system, trained emergency telecommunicators immediately assess the nature and urgency of each VAWC-related call. Cases involving non-physical abuse or those requiring community-level mediation are promptly referred to the Barangay VAW Desk for documentation, intervention, and appropriate action. A feedback mechanism is in place to ensure callers receive updates and that concerned offices act on the reports.

Incidents involving physical abuse or imminent danger are escalated without delay to the Philippine National Police for immediate intervention. Police officers are dispatched to secure the victim’s safety and initiate legal action against the respondent, whether a spouse, live-in partner, or other offender.

To further strengthen emergency response nationwide, the DILG is preparing to establish additional Unified 911 call centers across all regions to ensure faster and more efficient handling of emergencies, including VAWC-related incidents.

As the country observes National Women’s Month this March, the DILG reiterated its commitment to protecting women and children and reminded the public that help is available, confidential, and just one call away through 911.

Tagbilaran City, Bohol — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Bohol intends to inform the general public that in the pursuit of its mandate, the Department conducts various performance assessments on local governance and confers awards and incentives to performing Local Government Units (LGUs) that have exhibited exemplary performance in these performance audits. The following are the DILG-managed assessments, awards and incentives:

• Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG)
• Good Financial Housekeeping
• Anti-Drug Abuse Council Functionality
• Peace and Order Council Functionality
• Local Legislative Award (LLA)
• Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance
• Local Council for the Protection of Children Functionality
• Local Council on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Children Functionality
• Subaybayani Award
• Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays
• Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Award

Other than these, this level makes it clear that the Department is not associated with any of the awards proliferating on social media and categorically denies any involvement in such activities.

While this level acknowledges that other government agencies and private organizations and institutions are not prevented from giving due recognition to deserving local government units and elected local officials, the general public and most especially our local officials are strongly advised to be most prudent in giving acknowledgement and credence to award-giving bodies.

As guideposts, one may take foremost consideration to the track record of these institutions, the criteria they use, the methodologies they employ, and the mandates and objectives of the organizations, as well as their members.

We understand that there is an apparent clamor to gatekeep the giving of awards and recognition in local governance. Absent such mechanism as of the moment, however, we urge everyone to exercise due diligence and critical thinking not only in verifying the legitimacy of such awards and recognition but also in joining, accepting and promoting such.

Finally, we inform the public that this matter has been formally referred to higher levels of the Department for policy consideration and appropriate guidance.
