FARMERS’ FIELD DAY 2026:
LEARNING, SHARING & GROWING TOGETHER!
What happens when farmers from different Palayamanan sites come together?
Ideas are exchanged. Experiences are shared. Products are discovered. And new possibilities for farming and enterprise emerge!
On August 27, 2026, the Cabudburan Palayamanan Farmer-Partners Association in Calape, Bohol welcomed visiting farmers and partners for a meaningful and exciting Farmers’ Field Day.
The activity featured a guided farm tour, sharing of best practices, farmer-to-farmer learning, and an exchange of ideas on how Palayamanan can help make farms more productive, diversified, and resilient.

One of the highlights was the sharing of experiences and best practices from Palayamanan farmer-leaders:

Their stories brought the Palayamanan experience to life—showing how farmers are adapting technologies, diversifying their farms, and finding practical ways to improve their livelihoods.
SEEDS & KNOWLEDGE TO TAKE HOME
The Field Day also became an opportunity to share agricultural resources and knowledge. IEC materials and seeds from Bohol Agricultural Promotion Center (Bohol APC) were distributed to the participating farmers, including seeds provided by East-West Seed Company.
It was more than simply receiving seeds—it was receiving new possibilities to plant, experiment, and grow.
VALUE-ADDING TAKES CENTER STAGE!
And of course, the Product Table/Display Corner proved to be one of the crowd favorites!
Cabudburan farmer-partners proudly showcased their value-added products, including:

*Banana Chips
*Salabat
The products were eagerly snapped up by visiting farmers from other Palayamanan sites, turning the display table into a lively showcase of what farmers can create beyond raw agricultural products.
This was a wonderful reminder that Palayamanan is not only about producing crops—it is also about adding value, creating enterprises, and turning farm harvests into income-generating opportunities.
The activity was further strengthened by messages from Bohol APC Station Head Sunday Caro A. Oponda and the representative of Calape Municipal Mayor Sulpicio N. Yu Jr., with closing remarks from Municipal Agriculturist Maria Teresita J. Pentiacase.
From the farm to the learning center, from seeds to knowledge, and from harvests to value-added products, the Farmers’ Field Day showcased the many ways farmers can learn, innovate, and grow together.
When farmers share their knowledge, they multiply it.
When farmers share their products, they create opportunities.
And when farmers work together, communities move forward.

Batuan Palayamanan Farmer-Partners Showcase a Diversified and Integrated Farm System

BATUAN, BOHOL | August 20, 2026 — The Batuan Palayamanan Farmer-Partners Association held a Field Day at their Communal Garden and Learning Center in Rosariohan, Batuan, showcasing their accomplishments, farm enterprises, and experiences in implementing the Palayamanan approach.

The activity started with a field tour guided by Association President Joel Mejorada, who introduced the visiting participants to the various components and activities being implemented at the communal garden and learning center.

This was followed by a program and knowledge-sharing session, featuring experiences from the Batuan Palayamanan farmer-partners and fellow farmer-leaders from other Palayamanan and partner organizations.

Sharing their experiences and insights were:

*Mr. Anastacio Taray*, President of the Bungahan-Tupas-Bitaugan Farmers Association (BTB FA), Antequera
*Mr. Teodorico Auxtero*, President of the Balintawak Palayamanan Farmer-Partners Association, Talibon

The sharing emphasized the importance of farm diversification, integration of enterprises, resource utilization, farmer-to-farmer learning, and collective action in strengthening farm livelihoods.

Inspiring messages were delivered by BAPC Station Head Sunday Caro Oponda, PhilRice Negros Palayamanan Lead Rene Valdez, a representative of Batuan Mayor Atty. Emmanuel Aladin D. Tumanda, Batuan Municipal Agriculture Office representative Mariflor Pagador, and a barangay representative.

Adding value to the Field Day was the distribution of various Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials and seeds to participants, providing them with additional information and planting resources that they can apply in their own farms.

Meanwhile, the Batuan Palayamanan farmer-partners also showcased their fresh farm produce and processed products for sale. The display quickly became a favorite among the visiting participants, who enthusiastically purchased the products, especially because they were available at farm-gate prices. The activity demonstrated how a diversified Palayamanan farm can provide not only food and livelihood but also opportunities for value-adding and direct marketing of farm products.

The Field Day provided a meaningful venue for learning, sharing, networking, and market promotion, while strengthening the connection among farmer organizations and agriculture stakeholders.

The activity was a collaborative undertaking of the Department of Agriculture–Bohol Agricultural Promotion Center (DA-BAPC) and the Local Government Unit of Batuan, reflecting the importance of government and local partners working together with farmers in promoting diversified, integrated, and resilient farming systems.

From the farm to the table, Palayamanan brings together production, learning, enterprise, and community—creating opportunities for farmers to grow and prosper.

PhilRice Monitoring and Evaluation Team Visit Bohol's Palayamanan Sites

The second day of the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) visit of the Philippine Research Institute (PhilRice) under the Scaling of Rice Technologies under the National Rice Program brought the PhilRice team to two Palayamanan project sites in Bohol on July 29, 2026. The monitoring team was headed by Mr. Joselito M. Kalaw, Head of the Corporate Services Division of PhilRice Central Experiment Station (CES), Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija.

The team first visited the 2026 Palayamanan Plus Model, the Balintawak Palayamanan Farmer-Partners Association in Barangay Balintawak, Talibon, Bohol. They were warmly welcomed by Municipal Agriculturist Mr. Angelito A. Oroyan, together with the LGU agricultural staff, Barangay officials, and the officers and members of the association led by President Mr. Teodorico Auxtero.

During the visit, the PhilRice M&E Team met with the farmer-partners and toured the association's communal garden and mushroom production area. They also observed the ongoing Season-Long Training on Rice Production, where farmers continue to enhance their knowledge and skills on sustainable rice farming technologies.

The farmer-partners proudly showcased their value-added products developed through the Palayamanan Project, including calamansi drink, banana chips, rice w**e (tapuy), and seaweed ice cream, demonstrating how enterprise development complements rice-based farming systems and contributes to increased household income.

In the afternoon, the team proceeded to the Santa Cruz Palayamanan Farmer-Partners Association in Santa Cruz, Sierra Bullones, one of the 2024 Palayamanan Upscaling Model sites. The visitors were welcomed by Association President Mr. Anastasio Butron, who personally toured the group around his integrated model farm.

The M&E Team observed several best practices being implemented in the area, including crop diversification, rice-fish culture, biowaste utilization, livestock integration, and other farming technologies that exemplify the Palayamanan approach of maximizing farm productivity while promoting environmental sustainability.

The team also visited the weekly KADIWA market at the Sierra Bullones Municipal Hall grounds, where Palayamanan farmers were actively marketing fresh agricultural produce and processed food products. The visitors were warmly received by Ms. Luz Espina, Agricultural Technician of the Municipal Agriculture Office, who assisted in showcasing the farmers' products and local initiatives.

The entire field validation activity in Bohol was facilitated by the Bohol Agricultural Promotion Center (BAPC) – ESETS Unit, headed by Engr. Adoracion T. dela Cruz, Provincial Palayamanan Focal Person, together with her staff. The conduct of the monitoring activities highlighted the collaborative efforts of PhilRice, DA-RFO VII, the local government units, and the farmer-partners in promoting sustainable, diversified, and market-oriented farming systems across Bohol.

Can an Association Rise Again After Years of Silence?

Sometimes, all it takes is remembering where you came from to rediscover where you're going.

After several years of inactivity, the San Isidro Pilar Palayamanan Farmers Association gathered once again with renewed hope during the Palayamanan Project Briefing and Organizational Assessment. Once recognized as an award-winning farmers' association, the group took its first meaningful step toward reclaiming its legacy.

To rekindle that spirit, a PowerPoint presentation documenting the association's accomplishments dating back to 2008 was shown. For many of the new members, it was their first glimpse of what the association had achieved. For the longtime members, it was a walk down memory lane. Smiles, laughter, and heartfelt stories filled the room as they reminisced about the projects, trainings, and milestones they once shared.

The activity continued with a SWOT Analysis facilitated by ESETS Head, Engr. Adoracion T. dela Cruz, allowing the members to honestly assess where they stand today and where they aspire to go.

Among the strengths they proudly identified were their shared "pangandoy"—their collective dream for a better future—the cooperation and understanding among members, the active leadership of their Association President Mr. Rene Pelongo, and the presence of their own association building, though still unfinished.

They also recognized the realities they must overcome. Many of their farm machineries and facilities are already non-functional, limiting their productivity. Above all, they acknowledged climate change as the greatest threat to their farming livelihood.

Rather than seeing these challenges as obstacles, the association transformed them into opportunities for action. Together, they identified their Top Five Priority Challenges and crafted a development plan that will serve as their roadmap toward revitalizing the organization and strengthening the livelihood of their members.

The journey ahead will not be easy, but every successful organization begins with one courageous decision—to start again.

May this renewed commitment inspire the San Isidro Pilar Palayamanan Farmers Association to once again become a model of unity, resilience, and agricultural excellence in the Municipality of Pilar.

From Farm to Fair: Bohol Palayamanan Farmers Federation Joins the Sandugo Agri Fair 2026!

The spirit of "Sandugo" is not only about celebrating Bohol's rich history of friendship—it is also about honoring the hardworking farmers and fisherfolk who continue to nourish our province. This year's Sandugo Agri Fair 2026, held July 13–17 at Plaza Rizal, Tagbilaran City, is one of the Provincial Government of Bohol's major highlights of the Sandugo Festival, providing a venue where local producers can showcase their agricultural products, processed goods, innovations, and livelihood opportunities. The fair carries the inspiring theme:

"Panguma ug Pangisda Magpadayon, Bisan Pa sa Hagit sa Krisis ug Panahon."
