BOHOL UBI BOARD ADVANCES INITIATIVES TO STRENGTHEN PROVINCEβS UBI INDUSTRY
The Bohol Ubi Board convened on August 19, 2026, under the leadership and support of Governor Erico Aristotle C. Aumentado, to discuss key initiatives aimed at further developing and promoting Boholβs ubi industry.
The meeting, presided over by Provincial Administrator Asteria C. Caberte, brought together representatives from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), Bohol Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office (BEDIPO), Provincial Agricultural Technology Coordinating Office (PATCO), Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), Bohol Island State University (BISU), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Bohol Provincial Tourism Office (BPTO), Provincial Cooperative Development Office, and the Bohol Provincial Ubi Growers Association Incorporated, among other stakeholders.
The discussions covered updates on ongoing programs, budget and investment concerns, policy and ordinance matters, research and development initiatives, marketing and promotion efforts, processing facilities, and proposed directions for the industry in the coming year.
Provincial Agriculturist Liza M. Quirog, MNSA, presented to the Board initiatives supporting the recognition and protection of Boholβs traditional ubi varieties, including the ongoing Ubi Kinampay Morphological Survey and the proposed resolution supporting its submission as a traditional variety to the Bureau of Plant Industry.
Other matters included value-adding and food innovation through the proposed Bohol Food Innovation Center (BOFIC), the development of processing centers for the six Ubi clusters, budget and investment concerns, and plans for the continued development of the industry.
Reports from the Boardβs Technical Working Groups (TWGs) further provided updates on production enhancement, research and development, investment and development, and marketing and promotion.
These coordinated efforts, aim to strengthen the provinceβs ubi value chainβfrom production and research to processing, investment, tourism, and market developmentβwhile creating greater opportunities for local ubi farmers, cooperatives, and other industry stakeholders.
