โช๏ธ Moderate to Severe (Orange to Dark Orange): Moderate to substantial soil moisture deficit. Crops exhibit signs of moisture stress, while streams and irrigation reserves experience noticeable declines.
โช๏ธ Minor to Mild (Yellow to Light Orange): Initial or early-stage soil dryness where surface moisture is reduced, though deeper soil layers retain basic moisture thresholds.
โWHY IS A DROUGHT ADVISORY ISSUED EVEN IF IT IS RAINING IN YOUR AREA?
โโช๏ธ Subsoil Moisture vs. Surface Rain: Drought intensity models measure moisture stored deep in the soil profile (0โ40 cm root zone). Passing rain showers or localized thunderstorms only wet the uppermost layer of topsoil without penetrating deep underground.
โช๏ธ Runoff vs. Deep Soil Absorption: Heavy, short-duration rainfall often results in rapid surface runoff into drainage channels and rivers before the water can absorb deeply into root zones.
โช๏ธ Time Needed for Recovery: Overcoming accumulated subsoil moisture deficits requires persistent, long-term precipitation over several weeks or months. A few isolated rainy days are not sufficient to fully restore deep soil moisture levels.
