โœจ 52nd NUTRITION MONTH CELEBRATION โœจ

What a meaningful day it was! ๐ŸŽ‰
We successfully celebrated the 52nd Nutrition Month with our dear partners, health workers, barangay officials, and community members.

We were honored by the presence and inspiring message of our Guest Speaker, Ms. Marilou N. Panilan. Thank you Maโ€™am for sharing your time, wisdom, and advocacy for proper nutrition.

The highlight of the celebration was the โ€œGAWAD NG PARANGALโ€ โ€” where we recognized and awarded our Top Performing Health Workers. Your dedication, compassion, and service in bringing nutrition and health closer to every Tagoanon family is truly appreciated. You are the real champions of "Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat!" ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’š

To all who participated, supported, and made this event possible โ€” Daghang Salamat! Together, we proved that when we work sama-sama, we can achieve better health and nutrition for all.

Letโ€™s continue this momentum beyond July and keep pushing for healthier communities in Tago!

In line with the 52nd Nutrition Month Celebration with the theme "Nutrisyon at Kalikasan, Ating Pangalagaan," the Local Nutrition Committee of LGU-Tago implemented regular physical activities to promote healthy lifestyle and behavior change among employees.

Recognizing that good nutrition must go hand-in-hand with physical activity, the Committee organized Zumba, Pickleball, and Table Tennis sessions for all LGU employees every Friday at 3:00 PM. Zumba sessions were held at the Town Plaza to encourage fun, community-based exercise, while Pickleball and Table Tennis were conducted at the Old Gym to promote active recreation and team engagement.

These activities aim to raise awareness that maintaining a healthy body is as important as proper nutrition and environmental care. By making exercise accessible, regular, and enjoyable, the LGU hopes to foster a culture of wellness within the workplace and the community.

After each activity, participants were also provided with hot meal distribution, reinforcing the message that nutrition and physical activity are both key to achieving overall health and well-being.

Through this initiative, LGU-Tago continues to show its commitment to the 52nd Nutrition Month goal: protecting both nutrisyon and kalikasan for healthier families and a healthier Tago.

In line with the Department of Health and National Nutrition Council guidelines on Growth Monitoring and Promotion, a municipal-wide activity on the Calibration and Verification of Weighing Scales and Height Boards was conducted across 24 barangays in Municipality of Tago, held at Old Gymnasium. This activity is a critical part of ensuring that all tools used for weighing and measuring children and mothers during the Operation Timbang Plus or eOPT Plus cycle are accurate and reliable.

The main purpose of this activity was to check, test, and certify that all weighing scales and height boards being used in Barangay Health Stations and Child Development Centers are functioning correctly. Over time, mechanical and digital scales can lose accuracy due to frequent use, battery problems, moisture, or accidental drops. Height boards can also warp, fade, or shift their markings.

In line with this, we sincerely commend the efforts of Ms. Ana Valerie Rodrigo, RND, from PDOHO-SDS, and Ms. Shenna Marie H. Montenegro, RND from Provincial Nutrition Office. Thank you very much, Maโ€™ams.

This Hypertension Awareness Month, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) encourages the public to know their numbers and adopt healthier eating and lifestyle habits to help maintain normal blood pressure and support overall heart health.

High blood pressure often has no symptoms, but it can lead to serious health problems such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure if left unmanaged.

Following the Pinggang Pinoy food guide can help individuals achieve balanced meals by consuming Go, Grow, and Glow foods in appropriate portions. Reducing salt intake, eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking enough water, staying physically active, managing stress, and getting enough sleep are likewise important in promoting a healthier lifestyle.

The public is also advised to limit the consumption of high-sodium foods such as instant noodles, chips, canned goods, processed meats, and salty sauces, as excessive sodium intake may contribute to elevated blood pressure.

Regular blood pressure monitoring and making informed nutrition choices are important steps toward preventing hypertension and its complications.

By making healthy food and lifestyle choices every day, we can all contribute to building healthier hearts and healthier communities.

On May 6, 2026, the MELPPI Pro evaluation was successfully conducted at the Mayorโ€™s Office Conference Room, Tago, Surigao del Sur. The activity focused on assessing the implementation and impact of local nutrition programs, with the goal of strengthening service delivery and improving community health outcomes.

The evaluation was graced by the presence of our active Municipal Mayor and Vice Mayor, whose support highlighted the local governmentโ€™s commitment to nutrition and public welfare. Together with evaluators (PNO & PNC members) and participants (LNC members), we reviewed program performance, shared feedback, and identified strategies for improvement.

We appreciate the leadership of our Municipal Mayor and Municipal Vice Mayor, and the dedication of everyone involved, for making the evaluation productive and meaningful in advancing nutrition in our municipality.

The National Nutrition Council (NNC) stands in solidarity with all sectors in celebrating the 30th Girl Child Week with the theme โ€œ๐Š๐š๐ญ๐š๐ฐ๐š๐ง ๐Š๐จ, ๐Š๐š๐ซ๐š๐ฉ๐š๐ญ๐š๐ง ๐Š๐จ: ๐„๐๐ฎ๐ค๐š๐ฌ๐ฒ๐จ๐ง ๐“๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐จ ๐ฌ๐š ๐Œ๐š๐ฅ๐š๐ฒ๐š ๐š๐ญ ๐‹๐ข๐ ๐ญ๐š๐ฌ ๐ง๐š ๐๐š๐ ๐ฉ๐š๐ฉ๐š๐ฌ๐ฒ๐šโ€ (๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐œ๐ก ๐Ÿ๐Ÿโ€“๐Ÿ๐Ÿ–, ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”), reaffirming its commitment to the protection, empowerment, and holistic development of every Filipino girl.

Aligned with this yearโ€™s theme, the NNC emphasizes that the right to make informed, safe, and independent decisions begins with access to adequate nutrition, health services, and education. Proper nutrition is foundational in ensuring that girls grow into healthy, productive, and empowered women. However, challenges such as malnutrition, food insecurity, and limited access to nutrition services continue to affect many young girls, hindering their full development and potential.

Through sustained programs and partnerships, the NNC continues to advocate for nutrition-sensitive and gender-responsive interventions that prioritize the needs of girlsโ€”especially during critical stages such as adolescence. These include promoting balanced diets, supporting adolescent nutrition programs, and strengthening community-based initiatives that create enabling environments for informed decision-making.

Let us work together to protect, empower, and uplift every girlโ€”because her body, her rights, and her future matter. ๐Ÿ’œ
