DOST-ITDI, through its Packaging Technology Division, marks another important step in strengthening academic collaboration by formalizing its partnership with Adamson University through a Memorandum of Agreement on packaging safety research. The partnership positions Adamson University as an academic research partner that can help engage STEM students in relevant, applied, and policy-oriented studies on food packaging and contact materials. Through this collaboration, both institutions aim to contribute to expanding local baseline data, address research gaps in testing capability and product improvement, and support future science-based policy development. The MOA was signed asynchronously by Dr. Annabelle V. Briones, Director of DOST-ITDI; Dr. Marianito T. Margarito, Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Deputy Director; Dr. Eleanor S. Austria, Vice President for Academic Affairs; and Mr. Keith Limuel Bejasa, Chair of the Department of Chemistry. This initiative reflects a continuing commitment to build a stronger research ecosystem for packaging safety, where government expertise and academic participation work together for innovation, consumer protection, and public welfare.

DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) and Cultigen OPC have officially signed a Technology Licensing Agreement (TLA) for the commercialization of three Ready-to-Eat Adlai variants—Porridge, Champorado, and Parboiled. This partnership underscores DOST-ITDI's commitment to translating research into market-ready technologies that strengthen the local food industry, create opportunities for enterprises, and promote healthier food choices for Filipinos.

are at the forefront of the new partnership between GS1 Philippines and the Department of Science and Technology - Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST ITDI) for Location-Aware Smart Sorting Interface.

Representing GS1 Philippines, President & CEO Roberto "Bobby" Claudio and Chairman Pablo "Ambo" Gancayco signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Industrial Technology Development Institute Director Annabelle Briones and Packaging Technology Division Chief Floridel "Pinky" Loberiano for the application of and digital identification technologies to support the development and future implementation of the Smart Recycling Label System, where products will have Powered by GS1 for guidance on specific and proper recycling for packages.

DOST-ITDI’s innovation on ready-to-eat (RTE) adlay has won the Excellence in Project Implementation and Completion (EPIC) Award during the 16th Anniversary of DOST-PCIEERD held on June 29, 2026 at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati City.

Funded under DOST’s Collaborative Research and Development to Leverage Philippine Economy (CRADLE) Program, the project, “Preliminary Study on the Application of Retort Pouch Packaging Technology in the Development of Shelf Stable Ready-to-Eat Adlai (Coix lacryma-jobi L.) Products”, was led by Grace D. Noceja and her team at the Packaging Technology Division.

The project had developed three RTE variants of adlay, also known as Job’s tears, coix, or Chinese pearl barley, such as parboiled, porridge, and champorado, offering a highly nutritious, diabetic-friendly, gluten-free alternative to white rice and other grains.

DOST-ITDI, through its -Packaging Technology Division , formalized its partnership with the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila via a Memorandum of Agreement to establish the university as an academic research hub for packaging safety. This collaboration seeks to stimulate greater interest in packaging safety research among STEM students while expanding local baseline studies in an area that remains critical to testing capabilities, product improvement, and policy development. By linking government research expertise with academic capacity, the partnership strengthens the foundation for evidence-based studies that can support safer and more sustainable packaging systems in the Philippines.

The MOA was signed asynchronously by Dr. Annabelle V. Briones, Director of DOST-ITDI; Engr. Reynaldo Esguerra, former Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Deputy Director; Dr. Ronald P. Romero, PLM Vice President for Academic Affairs; and Dr. Aileen I. Atienza, Dean of the College of Science. This milestone reflects a shared commitment to advancing packaging safety research, nurturing future scientists, and contributing to science-based innovation for public welfare.
