Around 2,900 indigent and low-income solo parents from Taguigโs two districts received financial assistance during the launch of the cityโs cash subsidy program on Saturday, May 9, at the Taguig City University Auditorium in Barangay Central Bicutan.
The โAlay sa mga Natatanging Ina: Launching and Distribution of Cash Subsidy for Solo Parentsโ program, led by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), forms part of the cityโs implementation of Republic Act No. 11861, or the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act, and City Ordinance No. 57, s. 2026. Under the ordinance, qualified solo parents in Taguig are entitled to receive a monthly cash assistance of P1,000 and a solo parent purchase booklet.
In her message, Mayor Lani Cayetano said the city remains grateful for the opportunity to provide assistance to solo parents in Taguig:
Can you imagine that's a total of P12,000 a year per solo parent.
During the program, officials also conducted orientations on the benefits and provisions of the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act, including eligibility requirements and available government services for solo parents.
Representatives from the Taguig Scholarship Office and the Taguig Manpower Training and Assessment Center (TMTC) also presented scholarship opportunities and TESDA-accredited training programs aimed at helping solo parents and their children access education and livelihood opportunities.
Maria Lourdes Mangosing, 57, a solo parent from Barangay Comembo, thanked the city government for the financial assistance and rice aid she received during the program:
Another beneficiary, Alona Perez, 47, from Barangay Palingon Tipas, said the seminar also helped solo parents better understand the programs and services available to them:
After the program, participants received their first-quarter cash assistance from the city government and 10 kilos of rice under the national governmentโs rice assistance program. Solo parents with children aged six years old and below also received purchase booklets granting discounts on selected basic goods, medicines, and essential items.
