Distance and challenging roads won't stop the mission to bring science closer to our kids! After its pilot run in Metro Manila, the STEMPowering Project makes its very first regional rollout in Barangay Cogon—one of the farthest communities in Sigma, Capiz.

Huge thanks to DOST-Capiz, LGU Sigma, and the Cogon Barangay LGU for equipping our daycare teachers with science and mathematics storybooks and Bukas-Tuklas kits to inspire the next generation of young scientists! 💡🌱

| The STEMPowering Seniors Project of the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) culminated today at the AVR of the Barangay Hall of Putatan, Muntinlupa City, marking the successful completion of a month-long initiative dedicated to empowering retired educators in advancing early STEM learning.

One of the highlights of the closing program was the storytelling session led by retired educator Ms. Marita Malate, featuring the DOST-SEI storybook “Nasaan Sila” and an accompanying Bukas-Tuklas activity. Through this engaging session, children learned about different animal habitats, transforming storytelling into a meaningful and interactive science experience.

The event was attended by DOST-SEI Deputy Director Engr. Albert G. Mariño, SEID Supervising Science Research Specialist Rodelio G. de Asis, Barangay Putatan Chairman Gerardo Teves, Councilor Rodney Solema, Secretary King Francis Marquez, and Dr. Anelida G. Hebra, Head of the Barangay Affairs Department of Retired Teachers for Learners, reaffirming strong partnerships among stakeholders.

More than a celebration of the program’s completion, the event highlighted the important role of senior educators in shaping young minds. As Engr. | Learning came alive at the STEMPowering Seniors Project’s 📚✨ fifth storytelling session held at San Guillermo Child Development Center in Putatan, Muntinlupa City. Retired educators Marita and Belen captivated young learners with the stories “Dagdag Bawas” and “Halakhak,” making basic addition, subtraction, place value, and money concepts fun, meaningful, and easy to understand through engaging storytelling. ➕➖💯💰

The session was further enriched by the presence and support of representatives from the Barangay LGU and ECED Teacher Cecil of the Child Development Center. ✨ Shortly after the storytelling activities, a focus group discussion was conducted to gather insights, reflections, and feedback, highlighting the value of collaboration between educators, community partners, and stakeholders in strengthening early learning initiatives. 🌱🗣️📖

| From the shores of Bongao to the furthest islands of the province, our educators gathered last May 6 for a powerful day of learning! The DOST-SEI Innovations Unit officially landed in Tawi-Tawi for a high-energy workshop on STEM Open Education Resources (OER).

As part of the five-day 7E’s in Teaching Biology training of DOST SEI STEM Teach, our high school science teachers explored a new world of print, digital, and immersive applications. This free STEM ecosystem is designed to transform our classrooms into future-ready, 21st-century learning environments—ensuring that every student, no matter where they are in the BARMM, has access to world-class tools.

We aren't just teaching science; we are cultivating a culture of excellence and inclusivity. By empowering our teachers with modern pedagogy and immersive tech, we are making sure the youth of Tawi-Tawi are ready to lead the way as the scientists and innovators of tomorrow. 🧬🚀
