The 9th Infantry Division Holds 3rd Isarog Challenge to Strengthen Combat Readiness

The 9th Infantry (Spear) Division held the 3rd Isarog Challenge on October 7–8 at Camp Elias Angeles, Pili, Camarines Sur, testing the physical endurance, tactical proficiency, and mental toughness of six teams composed of officers and enlisted personnel.

Participants tackled a series of demanding activities, including a ruck march, company run, night land navigation, unexpected entry and equipment recovery, confidence course, and Philippine Army Warrior Fitness Test. They also demonstrated their marksmanship, weapons proficiency, military knowledge, teamwork, and emergency response skills through shooting exercises, weapons assembly and disassembly, written examinations, team chants, and humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR) exercises.

Building on the first two editions conducted under the leadership of Maj. Gen. Aldwine I. Almase, the Isarog Challenge reinforces the Division’s commitment to enhancing personnel readiness, strengthening operational capabilities, and preparing its troops to respond effectively to diverse mission requirements.

BGen. Jacinto Assumes Leadership of 7ID as MGen. Pasamonte Retires

Brigadier General Mario D. Jacinto, PA, has assumed duty as Acting Commander of the 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, Philippine Army, succeeding Major General Joseph Norwin D. Pasamonte, PA, who formally retired from active military service on October 6, 2026, after nearly four decades of dedicated service to the Philippine Army and the Filipino people.

The leadership transition took place during a Testimonial Parade and Review and Retirement Ceremony at the Lt. Galido Grandstand, Zagala Field, Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija. The ceremony brought together former 7ID commanders and command sergeants major, Philippine Army major unit commanders, senior leaders from the Northern Luzon Command and Joint Special Operations Command, and representatives from various government agencies, local governments, and private-sector partners.

Representing Lieutenant General Donald M. Gumiran, Commander, Philippine Army, Major General Efren F. Morados, Vice Commander, Philippine Army, called on soldiers to uphold the values of “Husay at Malasakit” by performing their duties with excellence while showing genuine concern for their fellow soldiers and the Filipino people.

The ceremony also honored MGen. Pasamonte’s leadership and service to the Pamilyang Kaugnay. Guided by his philosophy of “Pamilya at Malasakit,” he emphasized that mission accomplishment is strengthened by an organization that values and cares for its people.

In his farewell message, MGen. Pasamonte thanked the men and women of 7ID for the opportunity to serve alongside them and expressed his appreciation for their support throughout his command.

As MGen. Pasamonte concludes nearly four decades of military service, BGen. Jacinto takes on the responsibility of leading the 7ID and sustaining its mandate across Northern and Central Luzon. Under his leadership, the division will continue to strengthen partnerships, build on its gains, and fulfill its mission with professionalism, discipline, and commitment to service.

The command changes, but the mission endures. The Pamilyang Kaugnay remains steadfast in its duty to serve.

1ID Facilitates Safe Transfer of Fifty (50) Foreign Nationals for Further Processing

The 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division, Philippine Army, through Joint Task Group IGSOON under Joint Task Force ZAMPELAN, provided security and transportation assistance for the safe transfer of the first batch of 50 foreign nationals from Pagadian Airport to Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.

Personnel from the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) accompanied the individuals aboard a military aircraft for further processing and appropriate action.

Initial findings indicate that some of the foreign nationals may have been victims of human trafficking or other forms of exploitation. Authorities are conducting further investigation and validation to identify possible victims and determine the involvement of individuals who may have facilitated or participated in unlawful activities.

Meanwhile, the remaining foreign nationals continue to undergo verification, biometric documentation, and other required procedures by the NBI, BI, and other concerned agencies.

The 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division remains committed to supporting government efforts to protect possible victims, establish the facts surrounding the case, and uphold due process, human rights, and applicable laws.

The 27IB Completes BARMM Election Security Mission, Returns to 10ID

Major General Alvin Luzon, Commander of the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division, Philippine Army, and Brigadier General Christopher Diaz, Commander of the 1003rd Infantry (Raptor) Brigade, welcomed home the officers and enlisted personnel of the 27th Infantry (Action) Battalion (27IB) during a ceremony at Sitio Pag-asa, Barangay Malabog, Paquibato District, Davao City, on October 7, 2026.

The 27IB successfully completed its deployment in support of the September 14, 2026 BARMM Parliamentary Elections, where it augmented the 6th Infantry Division’s election security operations in the Special Geographic Area (SGA) of BARMM. The battalion helped ensure a safe, peaceful, and orderly electoral process.

Lieutenant Colonel Eliezer Bejarin, Commanding Officer of the 27IB, presented the battalion’s Completeness and Accomplishment Report, formally marking the completion of its election security mission. The deployed personnel also received the Military Merit Medal in recognition of their meritorious and invaluable service.

Maj. Gen. Luzon commended the 27IB for carrying out its mission with discipline, vigilance, and professionalism. He emphasized that their service helped provide a secure environment for Filipinos to exercise their right to vote and strengthened the battalion’s readiness for future missions.

“You have proven that wherever the Agila flies, the same standard of discipline and professionalism follows. Congratulations and welcome back to the Eagle’s Nest!” Maj. Gen. Luzon said.

With the completion of its BARMM election security mission, the 27IB returns to the 10ID ready to support the Division’s broader security mandate, including its continued focus on External Security Operations and other missions in support of national security and the protection of the nation’s interests.

CGPA Highlights Adaptation and Preservation at Australian Army Symposium

Commanding General Philippine Army, Lt. Gen. Donald M. Gumiran highlighted the importance of adaptation and preservation as a panelist during the second day of the Australian Army’s Chief of Army Symposium (CAS) 2026 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre in Western Australia on October 8, 2026.

Lt. Gen. Gumiran shared the Philippine Army’s experience in internal and external security operations, emphasizing its role in strengthening national and regional security. The Army’s operational experience and institutional practices continue to support cooperation and knowledge-sharing with partner nations.

The 4ID Trains One Hundred Ten (110) New CAAs to Strengthen Community Security

The 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, Philippine Army, strengthened its community-based security force as 110 newly trained Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) Active Auxiliaries (CAAs) completed the CAA-I Basic Military Training at the 4th Division Training School on October 6, 2026.

The newly trained CAAs will augment regular Army units across Northern Mindanao and the Caraga region by helping secure vital installations, gather local information, and support law enforcement agencies.

During the training, the CAAs developed basic military knowledge, skills, and discipline while strengthening their ability to support community security through their familiarity with local communities and terrain.

Major General Marion T. Angcao, Commander of 4ID, recognized the CAAs as vital community-based frontliners and emphasized their role in helping the Army respond effectively to developments on the ground.

“Kamo ang amoang lead scouts—ang unang makakita, unang makaila sa kahimtang, ug unang motultol sa atong mga pwersa ngadto sa husto ug luwas nga direksiyon,” MGen Angcao said, highlighting the CAAs’ role as the Army’s “lead scouts” who help identify situations early and guide regular forces toward appropriate and safe responses.

With their local knowledge, experience, and training, the newly graduated CAAs are expected to serve as force multipliers and strengthen the Army’s partnership with communities in maintaining peace and security throughout the 4ID area of responsibility.

SFR(A) Honors MGen Peña for Distinguished Service and Leadership

The Special Forces Regiment (Airborne) honored Major General Leonardo Icaro Peña, the 5th Commander of the 11th Infantry (Alakdan) Division, Philippine Army, during a testimonial ceremony held at the Regiment Headquarters on October 5, 2026.

A dedicated Special Forces operator, MGen Peña built his distinguished military career through years of service in key leadership positions within the Regiment. He served as Team Leader and Company Commander of the 7th Special Forces Company, led the 33rd Special Forces Company and the Philippine Army’s counter-terrorist unit, and later commanded the 4th Special Forces Battalion.

His years with the Special Forces shaped his leadership and prepared him for greater responsibilities within the Philippine Army. His journey reflects the Regiment’s commitment to developing highly capable operators and principled, mission-focused leaders who are prepared to serve at the highest levels of command.

The testimonial honor recognized MGen Peña’s dedicated service, exceptional leadership, and significant contributions to the Philippine Army. His legacy continues to inspire the officers and enlisted personnel of the Special Forces Regiment (Airborne) and the “Alakdan” Division to uphold excellence, integrity, service, and unwavering dedication in defending the nation and serving the Filipino people.

LSU ROTC Cadets Strengthen Land Navigation Skills During 11th Training Day

The La Salle University (LSU) Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Unit conducted its 11th Training Day on 03 October 2026 at La Salle University, Valconcha St., Brgy. Aguada, Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental, focusing on map reading and land navigation.

Col. Alfred E. Ramones, Commandant, led the activity with SSg Rio T. Cabiasan, Admin NCO; Mr. Noel S. Alamin, NSTP Coordinator; the Training Staff; and Advanced ROTC Officers.

Following the flag-raising ceremony, cadets underwent formation, organization, and accountability before attending an instructional lecture on Map Reading and Land Navigation delivered by Major Ely B. Limates (Reserve). The lecture covered essential navigation concepts, including map symbols, directions, scales, coordinates, and terrain identification.

Cadets then applied their classroom learning through hands-on field exercises in land navigation and terrain orientation. The practical activities strengthened their navigation skills while developing discipline, attentiveness, coordination, confidence, and adaptability in unfamiliar terrain.

Through this training, the LSU ROTC Unit continues to develop disciplined, capable, and service-oriented cadets prepared to uphold the values of Duty, Honor, and Country.

JRMSU-Katipunan ROTC Strengthens Cadet Skills Through 6th Training Day

The JRMSU-Katipunan Campus ROTC Unit conducted its 6th Training Day on 03 October 2026 at the JRMSU-KC Grandstand, Brgy. Dos, Katipunan, Zamboanga del Norte, strengthening cadets’ discipline, teamwork, leadership, and practical skills.

Led by Staff Sergeant Benjie V. Facinabao, ROTC Admin NCO, together with Sgt. Roderick P. Acoymo, Tac-NCO, the training featured drills and ceremonies that enhanced the cadets’ discipline, coordination, bearing, responsiveness, and teamwork. The activity was held under the leadership of Colonel William G.V. Dominguez (Reserve), Commandant, and the supervision of Col. Mandy T. Libertino, CDC Director.

The training also featured a lecture and practical demonstration on Rope Techniques conducted by Cadet 1Lt. Marimar T. Lumbay (ROTC), 2CL. The session equipped cadets with basic rope-handling skills while emphasizing proper ex*****on, safety, coordination, and teamwork.

Through focused drills and hands-on instruction, the cadets strengthened essential skills and gained practical experience that support their development as disciplined, capable, and responsible future leaders.

The successful training underscores the JRMSU-Katipunan Campus ROTC Unit’s commitment to developing cadets through meaningful activities that promote discipline, leadership, teamwork, and service.
