Transforming LIMS Data into Actionable Insights

On 20 July 2026, Engr. Erish T. Daranciang, MEng, PhD presented his study on optimizing laboratory workflows for greater efficiency. He demonstrated how regular laboratory records can be used to create realistic simulation models that enable our laboratories to make informed decisions.

Instead of relying on guesswork or rough estimates, laboratory leaders can use these simulations to identify bottlenecks, monitor changes, and base their decisions on actual data. Through research and data analysis, Dr. Erish showcased how to implement digital twin frameworks and discrete-event simulation models. These tools provide labs with a practical method to evaluate the performance of their systems and workflows, utilizing real data.

With these simulation tools, our decision-makers can safely assess team sizes and workflow adjustments before implementing any changes in the lab, helping to foster continuous improvement and resilience.

Official Oath-Taking: Mr. John Albert B. Casin Appointed as Science Research Specialist I

It's a big day for the Entomology Section, Biological Laboratory of the ITDI-Standards and Testing Division! Today, 03 August 2026, we are thrilled to announce that Mr. John Albert B. Casin officially took his Oath of Office as Science Research Specialist I.

Mr. Casin, whose dedication to entomology has been a cornerstone of efforts, was sworn in before Dr. Annabelle V. Briones, Director of the DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST ITDI).

This promotion is a testament to John Albert's expertise, hard work, and commitment to the DOST-ITDI's mission. We are incredibly excited him to the ITDI-Standards and Testing Division family, to witness his growth and look forward to his leadership and impactful contributions in this new role.

Driven by Quality, Powered by People: STD Successfully Concludes 1st Semester GA

The ITDI-Standards and Testing Division (STD) successfully wrapped up its 1st Semester General Assembly, bringing together our team to align on achievements, map out future goals, and reinforce our commitment to quality service!

The assembly was proudly spearheaded by our Division Chief, Ms. Ma. Rachel V. Parcon, RCh, MSc, alongside Quality Manager and Supervising Science Research Specialist, Mr. Admer Rey C. Dablio, RCh, CCPQM. Their leadership set an inspiring tone for the division as we continue to champion precision, rigorous standards, and continual improvement in all our undertakings.

The meeting served as an essential platform to align personnel across all employment statuses—regular, casual, and Contract of Service (COS)—with the division’s operational goals and quality commitments. Key highlights of the agenda included:

1) Accomplishments & Performance Targets: Presentation and appreciation of milestone achievements regarding the division’s 6Ps (Publications, Patents, Products, People Services, Partnerships, and Policies), Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and Quality Objective Indicators (QOIs).

2) Quality Management & Accreditations: Updates on laboratory accreditations, recognitions, and continual Laboratory Quality Management System (LQMS) activities.

3) Inclusive Dialogue: An open forum addressing the operational issues and concerns of all personnel to foster a supportive and collaborative work environment.

4) Continual Improvement: Identification of key strategic areas to enhance operational efficiency, service reliability, and overall division performance.

Through this assembly, the ITDI-Standards and Testing Division reinforced its commitment to maintaining rigorous quality standards, strengthening internal synergy, and delivering high-caliber laboratory and testing services in line with the mission of DOST ITDI.

A huge thank you to everyone in the STD team whose dedication keeps our division moving forward. Here’s to an even stronger, more productive second half of the year!

MAJOR MILESTONE: ALL RECOMMENDED FOR FDA RENEWAL OF LABORATORY ACCREDITATION! 🎉

We are thrilled to share a massive win for quality and consumer safety! The ITDI-Standards and Testing Division (STD) of DOST ITDI has successfully completed its FDA External Assessment (21-23 July 2026) for the renewal of Laboratory Accreditation in Foods and Beverages Testing (Physical, Chemical, and Microbiological)! 🧪✨

The assessment concluded with a resounding success: ALL applied scope parameters and approved signatories were officially RECOMMENDED for renewal of accreditation! 🙌

🏆 Key Highlights of the Assessment:

100% Recommendation Rate: All test parameters applied across Chemical, Physical, and Microbiological scopes were fully recommended.

Qualified Experts: All submitted laboratory signatories earned full recommendation from the FDA Assessment Team.

Minimal number of nonconformities which need to be addressed through corrections and corrective actions.

CAPACITY BUILDING SUCCESS: FDA Mindanao Satellite Lab Bolster Quality Standards with DOST ITDI🔬✨

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Satellite Laboratory for Mindanao, alongside the Davao Testing and Quality Assurance Laboratory (DTQAL) in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, has successfully completed an intensive capacity-building training program.

Held from 14–16 July 2026, this customized training was designed to strengthen laboratory operations in alignment with international standards, specifically focusing on PNS ISO/IEC 17025:2017.

Delivered by the expert specialists of the DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST ITDI), Mr. Admer Rey C. Dablio, RCh, CCPQM (Supervising Science Research Specialist) and Mr. Alxis John C. Movida, RMicro, PFT (Science Research Specialist II), the three-day program equipped laboratory personnel with critical, hands-on skills through interactive workshops:

1. Risk & Opportunity Management (July 14-15): Trainees dived deep into identifying and assessing laboratory risks, mapping out strategic SWOT Analyses, and establishing robust risk-management frameworks tailored to laboratory requirements.

2. Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions (July 16): Participants engaged in practical troubleshooting exercises, learning to dissect operational nonconformities, pinpoint underlying root causes, and implement bulletproof corrective actions.

This successful collaboration ensures that FDA Davao remains at the forefront of safe, precise, and internationally recognized testing and quality assurance.
