Building a Brighter Tomorrow Through Precision and Strategic Excellence

The ITDI-Standards and Testing Division of the Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST ITDI) successfully conducted its Pre-planning Workshop on 23 September 2026, at the STD Conference Room.

Gathering all regular technical and support staff, the session focused on setting strategic directions for service expansion, facility upgrades, and continuous quality improvement. Highlights included a review of accomplishments and targets, break-out planning sessions across laboratories, and alignment with national roadmaps:

(1) Roadmap 2027โ€“2028 Planning
(2) Government Optimization Program (GOP) Alignment (2029โ€“2031)
(3) Budget and Target Setting for 2027 & 2028
(4) Break-out sessions & reporting across the Biological Laboratory, Chemistry Laboratory, Physical & Performance Testing Laboratory, and the Office of the Chief / Receiving & Releasing Unit

ITDI-Standards and Testing Division Conducts Salt Testing Training for DA-BFAR NFLD Chemists

The Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST ITDI) through its ITDI-Standards and Testing Division (STD) successfully conducted a customized Hands-on Training Course on Analytical Testing of Salt Samples for the chemists of the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources National Fisheries Laboratory Division (DA-BFAR NFLD) on 17, 21-24 September 2026.

The 5-day capacity-building activity kicked off with an intensive online lecture on 17 September 2026, followed by hands-on laboratory activities at the ITDI-Standards and Testing Division Chemistry Laboratory in Taguig City. Throughout the training, participants gained practical experience in crucial analytical procedures, including:
(1) Moisture, Water-Insoluble, and Acid-Insoluble Determination
(2) Sodium Chloride Assay & Iodine Testing
(3) Calcium, Magnesium, and Sulfate Testing
(4) Reagent Standardization, Data Calculation, and Result Reporting

This collaboration aims to enhance local analytical capabilities and promote rigorous quality standards in salt testing across the country.

Small Team, Uncompromised Safety: DOST-ITDI STD Joins the 3rd Quarter NSED! ๐Ÿฆบ๐Ÿ””

Despite inclement weather conditions and alternative work arrangements keeping most of our personnel safe at home, the ITDI-Standards and Testing Division of DOST ITDI successfully participated in the 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on 10 September 2026.

Our skeleton workforce on-site executed emergency protocolsโ€”from the critical "Duck, Cover, and Hold" maneuver to simulated medical and evacuation responsesโ€”ensuring that our emergency response readiness remains sharp no matter the situation.

Transforming LIMS Data into Actionable Insights

On 20 July 2026, Engr. Erish T. Daranciang, MEng, PhD presented his study on optimizing laboratory workflows for greater efficiency. He demonstrated how regular laboratory records can be used to create realistic simulation models that enable our laboratories to make informed decisions.

Instead of relying on guesswork or rough estimates, laboratory leaders can use these simulations to identify bottlenecks, monitor changes, and base their decisions on actual data. Through research and data analysis, Dr. Erish showcased how to implement digital twin frameworks and discrete-event simulation models. These tools provide labs with a practical method to evaluate the performance of their systems and workflows, utilizing real data.

With these simulation tools, our decision-makers can safely assess team sizes and workflow adjustments before implementing any changes in the lab, helping to foster continuous improvement and resilience.

Official Oath-Taking: Mr. John Albert B. Casin Appointed as Science Research Specialist I

It's a big day for the Entomology Section, Biological Laboratory of the ITDI-Standards and Testing Division! Today, 03 August 2026, we are thrilled to announce that Mr. John Albert B. Casin officially took his Oath of Office as Science Research Specialist I.

Mr. Casin, whose dedication to entomology has been a cornerstone of efforts, was sworn in before Dr. Annabelle V. Briones, Director of the DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST ITDI).

This promotion is a testament to John Albert's expertise, hard work, and commitment to the DOST-ITDI's mission. We are incredibly excited him to the ITDI-Standards and Testing Division family, to witness his growth and look forward to his leadership and impactful contributions in this new role.
