The activity was initiated as part of the Provincial Ordinance 2016-21, which requires all quarry and mineral extraction permit holders to plant one tree seedling for every cubic meter of extracted resources in host and nearby communities.
Mining and quarrying activities often result in:
- vegetation loss
- soil degradation
- habitat destruction
leading to problems such as erosion, declining biodiversity, and increased flooding.
Tree planting helps:
- rehabilitate affected areas
- enhance soil stability
- protect watersheds
- strengthen community resilience.
The ordinance promotes environmental accountability amongst operators while fostering community involvement and supporting long-term sustainability, ensuring that development is balanced with effective rehabilitation efforts.
Two planting sites were deemed viable for tree planting within Brgy. Jaclupan. Other potential areas are yet to be visited.
