A New Milestone for Smart and Climate-resilient Agriculture in the Philippines! 🇵🇭

As part of the 4th AgriCoolTour celebrated annually at the Rizal Agricultural Research and Experiment Station (RARES), the upgraded Smart Greenhouse Project in the Philippines (SGPP) was officially launched on May 20, 2026 at RARES, Tanay, Rizal.

Led by the dedicated team of RARES, headed by Dr. Alexandra A. Quitoles Jamoralin, RAgr, in collaboration with the Management Information System (MIS) team, headed by Ms. Julany G. Castillo, MMPA, the project marks a major advancement from its partially automated setup initiated in 2019 into an intelligent and data-driven smart greenhouse system.

Funded under the RFDG Program of the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Agricultural Research, the upgraded SGPP now features advanced sensors capable of monitoring temperature, moisture, relative humidity, and other environmental parameters. These data are translated into a web-based platform that provides real-time insights and actionable information for efficient greenhouse management.

The system also includes a mobile application that enables farmers to remotely access greenhouse data, monitor crop conditions, and control irrigation systems, vents, curtains, and cooling mechanisms anytime and anywhere. Powered further by Artificial Intelligence (AI), the system can now generate recommendations and provide overall crop health scores based on available greenhouse data.

The successful launching was attended by valued stakeholders and partner institutions including representatives from DA-BAR, DA-PRDP, BSWM, BFAR-Tanay, BPI-Baguio, various Research Stations in CALABARZON, URS, LGUs, Private Partners, and Farmers’ Associations from nearby provinces.

Together, we continue to embrace innovation and smart technologies toward a more sustainable, efficient, and climate-smart future for Philippine agriculture.
