The Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), in collaboration with the Regional Field Offices (RFOs) of the Department of Agriculture (DA), is implementing the project entitled โLocal Seed Support in Rice Productionโ to strengthen the availability and accessibility of quality rice seeds among farmers in the different regions. The project aims to support rice production by providing locally adapted and suitable seed varieties to farmers, particularly in areas affected by adverse production conditions.
In DA Regional Field Office IV-A CALABARZON, the Rizal Agricultural Research and Experiment Station (DA-RARES) has been identified as an In**ed Rice Seed Producer and a member of the SeedNet program. As part of its participation in the project, DA-RARES undertakes activities related to the production, maintenance, and multiplication of quality in**ed rice seeds intended to support the seed requirements of rice farmers within the region. The station serves as one of the strategic production sites that can contribute to the availability of quality seed and help strengthen the regional rice seed production system.
To facilitate the effective implementation and coordination of the project, a courtesy call and coordination meeting was conducted with the Regional Executive Director, Regional Technical Director for Research, Research Division Chief, Rice Banner Program Coordinator, and Rice Seed Coordinators of DA RFO IV-A CALABARZON. The activity provided an opportunity to discuss the objectives, implementation strategies, responsibilities, production targets, and other technical and operational requirements of the Local Seed Support in Rice Production project. It also strengthened coordination among the concerned offices and personnel involved in rice seed production and distribution.
In addition, site monitoring and field assessment were conducted jointly with personnel from PhilRice to evaluate the implementation and of seed production activities at DA-RARES. The monitoring activity focused on assessing the condition and development of the rice seed production area, reviewing farm and crop management practices, and determining compliance with recommended seed production protocols and technical standards. The activity also provided an opportunity to identify operational concerns, technical requirements, and areas for improvement that may affect the successful production of quality in**ed rice seeds.
The coordination and monitoring activities demonstrate the commitment of DA RFO IV-A CALABARZON, through DA-RARES, to actively support the objectives of the Local Seed Support in Rice Production project. Through continuous collaboration with PhilRice and other concerned DA offices, the station aims to strengthen its capacity as an in**ed rice seed producer and contribute to a more reliable, accessible, and sustainable supply of quality rice seeds for farmers in CALABARZON.
