On 29 July 2026, the Haven for the Elderly warmly welcomed representatives from the Department of Health – Center for Health Development (CHD) CALABARZON (Region IV-A) during their monitoring and evaluation visit for the Medicine Access Program for Mental Health (MAP-MH).

The DOH team was led by Ms. Geneva C. Calanog, Outcome Manager of the CHD IV-A Mental Health Program, together with Ms. Chriselle Marie R. Pahayag, Health Officer II, and Ms. Ma. Michaela Denise B. Dimaano, Health Officer I.

The visitors were received by Ms. Marizal B. Bangniwan, Center Head, together with Dr. Charito S. Malibran and the center's staff.

The visit was conducted pursuant to Republic Act No. 11036, or the Mental Health Act, which mandates the Department of Health to ensure the delivery of accessible, responsive, and quality mental health services. The activity focused on monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the Medicine Access Program for Mental Health (MAP-MH), assessing the center's mental health initiatives, and providing technical assistance to further strengthen the delivery of mental health services for the residents.

Together, the center and DOH continue to promote a healthier, more compassionate, and mentally resilient community. 💙🧠

The Haven for the Elderly joined the nationwide observance of the 48th National Disability Rights Week (NDRW) from 17-23 July, with the theme: "Rights First, Legislation Forward: Strategic Action for Equal Participation and Inclusive Development." Throughout the week, the Medical Service staff of the center conducted health education lectures and film showings in the residential cottages to raise awareness on the rights, dignity, and well-being of persons with disabilities (PWDs).

The week-long observance culminated in a meaningful program attended by residents, staff, and guests. Councilor Gina Piscacio-Berdan of the Municipality of Tanay delivered an inspirational message, encouraging the residents to continue living with hope, dignity, and resilience while emphasizing the community's shared responsibility in promoting inclusion, respect, and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. Inspiring testimonies were also delivered by residents Antonio Rodel and Jose Audie Simbajon.

The observance served as a meaningful reminder that every individual possesses unique abilities and deserves to be valued, respected, and given equal opportunities to participate fully in the society.

On 16 July 2026, the Haven for the Elderly conducted a series of engaging activities during Week 2 in celebration of Nutrition Month 2026 to encourage healthy living, active aging, and meaningful participation among its residents and staff. The activities included the Move Your Body Nutri-Zumba, Nutri-Decor, and Nutri-Lympic, which were held throughout the day at the Haven for the Elderly in support of this year's Nutrition Month celebration.

The morning started with the Move Your Body Nutri-Zumba, where residents and staff enthusiastically joined the exercise session. A heartwarming highlight of the activity was the active participation of residents, including those using wheelchairs, who happily took part in the Zumba, demonstrating that physical activity can be enjoyed regardless of age or mobility. This was followed by the Nutri-Decor activity, where participants showcased their creativity and teamwork by creating colorful and meaningful displays that reflected the Nutrition Month theme.

In the afternoon, the Nutri-Lympic brought excitement and fun as residents and staff participated in interactive games that promoted physical movement, cooperation, and camaraderie. The activities filled the venue with laughter, encouragement, and friendly competition while strengthening social interaction among participants. Through these activities, the Haven for the Elderly reaffirmed its commitment to promoting wellness, healthy lifestyles, and meaningful engagement, proving that nutrition and active living are best celebrated together.

July 8, at 9:00 AM, the facility came alive with the vibrant energy of Therapy Day. The morning was filled with a wonderful variety of simultaneous activities designed to uplift, engage, and comfort everyone involved.

From the quiet focus of the coloring and word search stations to the high spirits of the videoke session and the deep reflection of cinematherapy, there was truly something for everyone.

The day was a beautiful, fun-filled tapestry of emotions. Bright smiles and hearty laughter filled the rooms, alongside tender tears of reminiscence as old memories were awakened. Most touchingly, the event became a special venue for an elderly couple who, having just reconciled the very day before, used the activities as a beautiful space to bond, rebuild, and share old joys together.

The Haven for the Elderly reaffirmed its commitment to promoting quality elder care through a learning session held on 07 July 2026 at the Army Station Hospital (ASH), Camp Mateo Capinpin, Tanay, Rizal. Nurse Jocelyn C. Reyes of the Haven for the Elderly served as the Resource Speaker and delivered a lecture on "Caregiving for Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities," providing healthcare personnel with practical knowledge and essential caregiving techniques for delivering compassionate, person-centered care.

The learning session demonstrated how continuous education and inter-agency collaboration enhance the capacity of healthcare providers to address the physical, emotional, social, and psychological needs of older persons and persons with disabilities.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Army Station Hospital (ASH), Camp Mateo Capinpin, Tanay, Rizal, for the opportunity to contribute to this meaningful learning activity. Yesterday, we proudly kicked off our Nutrition Month 2026 Celebration with an energetic Opening Kick-off Parade, bringing together our residents and staff in support of this year's theme:

"Sa PPAN, sama-sama sa nutrisyong sapat para sa lahat! Nutrisyon at Kalikasan, ating pangalagaan." 💚🍎🌍

The celebration also featured the much-awaited Search for H.E. LoloSog at LolaKas 2026, showcasing the confidence, talent, and inspiring spirit of our beloved lolos and lolas. Their smiles and enthusiasm remind us that healthy aging is made possible through proper nutrition, active living, and a caring community.

May this Nutrition Month inspire all of us to make healthier choices while protecting our environment for future generations.

One of Haven for the Elderly's client's wish has been fulfilled!

After more than two (2) years of care, support, and companionship at Haven for the Elderly, Lolo Ericson, a 65-year-old resident, has been discharged for independent living, under the care and custody of his relative in Brgy. Malaya, Pililla, Rizal.

While the center serves as a safe haven for older persons in need of protection and care, one of our greatest aspirations is to help residents reconnect with their families or relatives whenever possible and support their successful reintegration into the community. Through continuous assessment, preparation, and coordination, Lolo Ericson is now given the opportunity to begin a new chapter surrounded by the support of his relatives and community.

This accomplishment would not have been possible without the invaluable partnership and unwavering assistance of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) of Pililla, Rizal, and Brgy. Malaya, whose commitment and collaboration were instrumental in ensuring a safe and successful community reintegration.

As Lolo Ericson embarks on this new journey, Haven for the Elderly celebrates this meaningful transition and remains hopeful that he will continue to experience dignity, independence, and the warmth of family life.

We wish Lolo Ericson good health, happiness, and continued well-being. 💙

On 30 June 2026, the Productivity Unit conducted another crafts demonstration for the members of the Productivity Service, with a total of 10 participants composed of 4 female and 6 male members. Ms. Battad and Ms. Blaza demonstrated the process of creating flowers using fuzzy craft wire.

Fuzzy craft wire, commonly known as chenille stems or pipe cleaners, consists of a bendable wire core wrapped in soft, fuzzy fibers. It is also frequently referred to as fuzzy sticks or craft stems and is widely used for various arts and crafts projects.

The demonstration aimed to introduce the members to a different type of craft activity that can serve as an alternative to their usual doormat and rag-making tasks. This initiative provides the clients with an opportunity to develop new creative skills while diversifying their daily activities. It also offers an additional productive activity for the members without compromising the Productivity Service's regular production output.

The Haven for the Elderly, in collaboration with the National Training School for Boys (NTSB) successfully concluded its month-long Pride Month Celebration with this year’s theme, “Makatao, Makatarungan at Inklusibo: DSWD para sa lahat”.

The celebration commenced with the Pride Parade as Kick Off Activity on 4 June 2026, followed by Knowledge Sharing Session during General Staff Meeting and Poster Making Contest participated by the elderly residents and culminated in a colorful program last 29 June 2026 that underscored the Department’s commitment to promoting inclusivity, respect for diversity and protection of the rights and dignity of all individuals.

Through the series of activities, staff and residents from both residential centers were provided with opportunities to express themselves, strengthening mutual respect and foster a culture of acceptance for the LGBTQIA+ community.
