Library Professional Development in Action

The University Library continues to strengthen its commitment to professional growth and service excellence through active participation in national library organizations. Recently, a library representative attended the 38th General Assembly of the Medical and Health Librarians Association of the Philippines (MAHLAP) held in Legazpi City, a gathering that brought together information professionals dedicated to advancing health and library services in the digital era.

Guided by the theme “From Pixel to Practice: Evolving Human and Library Systems,” the assembly emphasized the transformation of libraries through innovation, collaboration, and community engagement. The conference provided valuable opportunities to explore emerging digital tools and artificial intelligence applications that enhance research support, improve information retrieval, and promote more responsive, user-centered library services.

Equally important were discussions addressing ethical and security challenges in health informatics. Sessions highlighted the responsibility of librarians in ensuring data privacy, practicing responsible AI use, and maintaining ethical standards in managing digital health information. These conversations reinforced the evolving role of librarians as stewards of trustworthy and secure knowledge systems.

The event also fostered meaningful collaboration among librarians, researchers, and information professionals from across the country. Through networking and knowledge-sharing activities, participants strengthened professional connections that support health research initiatives and promote cooperative information services nationwide.

A key takeaway from the assembly was the continuing importance of inclusive and community-centered libraries. Presentations underscored the role of libraries as accessible learning spaces that empower communities through equitable access to information, lifelong learning opportunities, and responsive outreach programs.

Participation in MAHLAP 2026 reaffirms the University Library’s dedication to continuous professional development, innovative library services, ethical information management, and strengthened community engagement. A photo of a sunset can't compare to the 𝐧𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐨𝐮𝐬 shimmer of a cloud on the horizon right as the sun goes down.✨

𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐈𝐬𝐬𝐚 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐚 ranked TOP 7 with an outstanding rating of 93.80%.
𝐑𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚 𝐏. 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫 secured TOP 8 with an impressive rating of 93.60%.
