In observance of the National Anti-Trafficking in Persons Awareness Month 2026, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), together with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) as the lead agency, conducted a Tree Growing and Planting Activity on July 30, 2026, at the Ihawan Spring Community Watershed, featuring the planting of 150 White Lauan (Shorea contorta) seedlings.

Representing Hon. Mayor Roxanne C. Pimentel was Punong Barangay Hon. Charisse Valentine Pimentel-Pineda of Barangay Bongtud, who joined the activity together with participating barangays, partner offices, agencies, and stakeholders.

The activity was conducted in partnership with the City Nutrition Office, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Tandag, Philippine National Police (PNP) Tandag, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and Tandag City Water District (TCWD), the co-manager of the Ihawan Spring Community Watershed, together with other participating barangays and partner agencies/institutions.

The planting of 150 White Lauan seedlings contributes to the continued rehabilitation and enrichment of the Ihawan Spring Community Watershed, strengthening efforts to protect its forest cover and sustain its vital role as a source of water and ecological services for the community.

More than just planting trees, the activity highlighted the value of collective action and shared responsibility—protecting our communities while nurturing the environment for generations to come.

Through the continued collaboration of government offices, partner agencies, barangays, and stakeholders, Tandag City remains committed to growing greener, healthier, and more resilient communities.

As part of the 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐍𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐊𝐢𝐜𝐤-𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 led by the City Nutrition Office, Ms. Daisy Jane Vete, Community Development Officer of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), served as the guest speaker during the IEC session held on July 14, 2026 at the Barangay Mabua Covered Court

In her presentation, Ms. Vete emphasized that 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝, as clean air, safe water, healthy ecosystems, and proper waste management are essential to food security, sustainable agriculture, and the overall health of every community.

She also highlighted CENRO's flagship programs: the 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦, 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦, and 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦—encouraging everyone to take part in protecting the environment through responsible waste management and conservation efforts, reinforcing that a healthy environment is key to a healthier and more resilient Tandag.

River Clean-Up Drive 🛶

In preparation for the 19th Charter Day of Tandag City, a river clean-up activity spearheaded by Honorable City Mayor Roxanne C. Pimentel together with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) was successfully conducted this morning across the six central barangays: Telaje, Dagocdoc, Bongtud, Bag-ong Lungsod, Mabua, and San Agustin Sur.

Our sincere thanks to CSO group MARITES-Tandag City, DepEd Tandag City, Philippine Red Cross–SDS Chapter, PNP Tandag City Component, BFP, City DRRM Office, Tandag Anglers Club, and other partner agencies for their time and effort in helping protect our rivers.

A healthy river is a reflection of a caring community. 🤗

In celebration of the 66th Araw ng Surigao del Sur, the City Government of Tandag, under the leadership of Hon. Mayor Roxanne C. Pimentel, through the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) headed by Edwin A. Ajos, actively participated in the province-wide Arbor Day Celebration on June 16, 2026 at the Ihawan Spring Community Watershed.

The annual tree-planting activity is institutionalized under Provincial Ordinance No. 41, Series of 2023, which establishes Arbor Day as a regular environmental initiative aimed at promoting forest restoration, watershed protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate change mitigation throughout the province.

The simultaneous province-wide activity was spearheaded through the collaborative efforts of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and Local Government Units, led by PENRO Mae Q. Sauro, and attended by Provincial Administrator John Vincent C. Pimentel. Also present were one of the co-managers of ISCW from the Tandag City Water District (TCWD), represented by Forester Jerry Bernadas, along with partner agency and organization including the Motherly Association for River Initiatives Towards Environmental Sustainability (MARITES), BJMP-Surigao del Sur District Jail Tandag City, barangay officials from Barangay Awasian, community volunteers, and other environmental advocates.

A total of 150 White Lauan (Shorea contorta) seedlings were planted during the activity, contributing to the rehabilitation and enhancement of the watershed area. White Lauan is a valuable native tree species known for its ecological importance in improving forest cover, protecting water resources, and providing habitat for wildlife.

This collective effort demonstrates the commitment of government agencies, partner organizations, and local communities to environmental stewardship and sustainable development. Through tree planting and ecosystem restoration activities, we continue to strengthen our responsibility to safeguard natural resources for future generations.

Together, let us nurture every seedling planted today into a lasting legacy of environmental protection and sustainable growth for Surigao del Sur.

In celebration of Earth Month, the City Government of Tandag, under the leadership of Mayor Roxanne . Pimentel, through the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), successfully conducted a bamboo planting activity along the riverbank of Barangay Maitom on April 30, 2026.

This meaningful initiative brought together dedicated participants from the barangay officials and constituents, PESO summer job beneficiaries, DepEd Tandag City Division, Metro-rei Ventures, Inc., CDRRMO, and the Tandag City Water District—united with one goal: to protect and restore our environment.

Bamboo plays a vital role in riverbank protection by preventing soil erosion and stabilizing the land. Its strong root system helps reduce the risk of flooding and protects nearby communities. Additionally, bamboo absorbs carbon dioxide efficiently, contributing to climate change mitigation while supporting biodiversity and sustainable livelihoods.

This activity is more than just planting—it is a step toward long-term environmental resilience, cleaner waterways, and a stronger commitment to stewardship of our natural resources.

Together, let us continue to grow greener communities—one bamboo at a time.

Turning waste into 'worth': One rag at a time ♻️
