AgriSerbisyo on Wheels: Coconut Information Exchange Batch 5 in Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat.

The Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center XII (ATI-RTC XII), in partnership with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Sultan Kudarat and the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMAG) of Esperanza, successfully conducted the AgriSerbisyo on Wheels: Coconut Information Exchange Batch 5 in Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat.

The activity formally opened with an inspiring message delivered on behalf of the Municipal Agriculturist of Esperanza by Sitinor Asimpen, Agricultural Technologist II, who warmly welcomed the participants and acknowledged the collaborative efforts of ATI-RTC XII, PCA, and the local government in bringing agricultural extension services directly to farming communities.

Following the opening remarks, Charmigne Christian Pabilona, Agriculturist II of the Philippine Coconut Authority – Sultan Kudarat, delivered a message of support highlighting PCA's continued commitment to empowering coconut farmers through technical assistance, capability-building activities, and the implementation of programs under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP). She encouraged the participants to actively engage in the discussions and maximize the learning opportunities provided during the activity.

As part of ATI-RTC XII's commitment to promoting digital learning in agriculture, Jossel V. Barbosa, Technical Staff of ATI-RTC XII, conducted an informative ATI e-Learning Briefing. The presentation introduced participants to the Agricultural Training Institute's free online learning platform, which offers self-paced courses covering coconut production, crop and livestock management, climate-smart agriculture, agripreneurship, farm business management, and other relevant agricultural technologies. Farmers were encouraged to utilize the platform as a convenient and accessible resource for continuous learning, enabling them to acquire new knowledge and skills anytime and anywhere.

The learning sessions continued with a comprehensive discussion on Coconut Agro Technologies facilitated by Pink Ymor Ramos of PCA Sultan Kudarat. The discussion featured recommended coconut production technologies, improved farm management practices, pest and disease management strategies, fertilization techniques, and other innovations designed to increase productivity while ensuring the long-term sustainability of coconut farming. Participants actively engaged in the discussion by raising questions and sharing their own farming experiences, creating an interactive exchange of ideas between farmers and resource persons.

Complementing the technical discussions, Francis Ian Pelenio, PDO I of PCA-Sultan Kudarat presented the CHED Scholarship Program for Coconut Farmers and Their Families, one of the educational interventions under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP). The presentation provided participants with comprehensive information on scholarship qualifications, eligibility requirements, available benefits, and the application process. The program aims to provide educational assistance to qualified coconut farmers, their families, and dependents, helping improve access to higher education while contributing to the long-term development of coconut farming communities.

The activity concluded with a heartfelt closing message delivered by Cristi Ros Travilla of the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMAG) of Esperanza. She expressed her gratitude to ATI-RTC XII, PCA Sultan Kudarat, the resource persons, and all participating coconut farmers for their active involvement and continued support of agricultural development initiatives.

August 3, 2026 – The Agricultural Training Institute–Regional Training Center XII (ATI-RTC XII), through its Livestock Program, in partnership with the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC)–University of Southern Mindanao (USM), officially launched the Basic Training Course on Artificial Insemination (AI) of Large Ruminants for Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs)/AI Technicians in Region XII and BARMM at ATI-STC XII, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.

The month-long training, scheduled from August 3 to 28, 2026, brings together 20 participants from local government units (LGUs) and AI technicians from various municipalities.

The training officially commenced with inspiring opening remarks delivered by Errol Chris A. Laspiñas, RAgr, Livestock Focal Person, on behalf of Jessie V. Beldia, Ph.D., OIC–Center Director. In his message, he congratulated the participants for being selected among the few to undergo the training and encouraged them to become dedicated field partners in promoting artificial insemination in collaboration with the Philippine Carabao Center–University of Southern Mindanao (PCC–USM).

Representing Dr. Geoffray R. Atok, Ph.D., Center Director of PCC @ USM, Dr. Virgilio V. Lopez, Science Research Specialist II of PCC @ USM, delivered an inspirational message, encouraging the participants to maximize the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills and contribute to the development of the carabao industry in Region XII and BARMM.

During the afternoon session, Mr. Rodolfo Valdez, Science Research Specialist I of PCC @ USM, discussed the Carabao Development Program. Meanwhile, Dr. Virgilio V. Lopez, Science Research Specialist II, conducted an informative lecture on the Anatomy and Physiology of the Female Reproductive System in Ruminants, followed by an in situ familiarization of the female reproductive organs and their structures, as well as a demonstration on AI gun insertion.

The training aims to equip Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) and AI technicians with the knowledge and practical skills in pregnancy diagnosis and artificial insemination for large ruminants, supporting the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) and the National Dairy Authority (NDA) in strengthening carabao and cattle breeding programs across Region XII and BARMM.

The ATI-RTC XII, under its High Value Crops Development Program, conducted a five-day Training of Trainers on Banana Value Adding and Processing for Agricultural Extension Workers and selected LSA cooperators from region 12 and BARMM this August 3-7, 2026 at Belo Hall of ATI-RTC XII.

The training began with Dr. Jessie V. Beldia giving his opening message in which he highlights the role that AEWs and LSA cooperator plays in the banana industry within their respective region. The training aims to capacitate AEWs and LSA cooperators on value adding and processing from banana.

Resource persons for the first two (2) days of the training from DA-RFO XII, DTI XII, and DOST XII presented the topics on Philippine Banana and Industry and Situation, Principles of Food Processing, Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices, Processing Technologies in Banana, Banana Enterprise Development and Marketing.

The participants were also exposed on hands-on activities such as the processing banana catsup and banana flour.

The Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center XII (ATI-RTC XII) successfully conducted the Training on Coconut Products and By-Products (Food) Batch 7 on August 3–5, 2026, at Park-Lay Suites, Kidapawan City, Cotabato, with the participation of 30 coconut farmers from the Municipality of Antipas, Cotabato.

The three-day training formally commenced with a welcome message from Mr. Joseph P. Simpao, Technical Staff of ATI-RTC XII, together with Ms. Marjurie G. Jalipa, Agriculturist II of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) – Cotabato Province. They warmly welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of acquiring practical knowledge and skills in coconut processing to create additional income opportunities and promote the sustainable development of the coconut industry.

During the training, Ms. Marjurie G. Jalipa served as one of the resource persons and discussed Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Her lecture highlighted the importance of food safety, sanitation, personal hygiene, proper handling of raw materials, processing procedures, and quality assurance to ensure that coconut products meet food safety standards and are suitable for the market.

Meanwhile, Mr. Russel Jed S. Dela Peña, Coconut Development Officer of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) – Cotabato Province discussed the Opportunities in Coconut Products and By-Products, emphasizing the wide range of income-generating enterprises that coconut farmers can venture into through value addition. He also facilitated the Processing of Coconut Food Products and By-Products, where participants actively engaged in hands-on demonstrations on the production of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO),Coco Sugar, Buko Juice, Coco Yema, and Coco Toyo. The practical sessions enhanced the participants' skills and confidence in producing quality coconut-based products for household consumption and potential commercial production.

As part of the experiential learning activities, the participants visited Century Palm in Makilala, Cotabato, owned by Mr. Dennis Floresta, for a farm and processing facility tour. The participants observed actual coconut processing operations, processing equipment, quality control measures, and value-adding technologies. The visit provided them with firsthand learning experiences and inspired them to explore coconut-based enterprises within their own communities.

The training concluded with the closing message of Mr. Russel Jed S. Dela Peña, who encouraged the participants to apply the knowledge and skills they acquired throughout the training. He emphasized that the true value of the activity lies in translating learning into action by producing quality coconut products, exploring entrepreneurial opportunities, and sharing their newfound knowledge with fellow coconut farmers to contribute to the growth and competitiveness of the coconut industry.

Through this training, ATI-RTC XII continues to strengthen the capabilities of coconut farmers by promoting value addition, food safety, and agripreneurship under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP). By equipping farmers with practical skills and entrepreneurial knowledge, the Institute remains committed to improving livelihoods and fostering a resilient and globally competitive Philippine coconut industry.
