The Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur, through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) headed by Monaima Adiong, conducted a rice distribution activity for vulnerable sectors on September 1, 2026, at the Training Center in Pitakus, Taraka, Lanao del Sur. A total of 1,000 beneficiaries received rice assistance as part of the province’s continuing efforts to provide support to vulnerable members of the community. The activity was facilitated in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Taraka under the leadership of Mayor Nashiba U. Sumagayan, reflecting the strong collaboration between the provincial and municipal governments in bringing essential assistance closer to the people. The Municipality of Taraka extends its sincere appreciation to the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur and the PSWDO for this meaningful initiative and continued support for the welfare of the community.

The Local Government Unit of Taraka, through Mayor Nashiba U. Sumagayan and Vice Mayor Mohammad Aquil G. Sumagayan, joins the nation in commemorating National Heroes Day.

Today, we honor the courage, sacrifices, and unwavering service of the heroes who helped shape our nation and defended the values of freedom, peace, and dignity. We also recognize the everyday heroes in our communities—those who selflessly serve, protect, educate, and inspire others through their dedication and compassion.

May their sacrifices remind us that heroism is not only found in history, but also in the simple acts of service, unity, and love for our community and country.

RIDO SETTLEMENT IN TARAKA

The Municipality of Taraka witnessed another meaningful step toward peace and reconciliation as the long-standing land dispute between the Comayog family of Taraka and the Dumpa family of Tamparan was amicably settled on August 26, 2026, at the Taraka Municipal Gymnasium, Barangay Maruhom, Taraka, Lanao del Sur.

The settlement was made possible through the mediation and leadership of Deputy Speaker MP Atty. Amenodin U. Sumagayan, together with Mayor Nashiba U. Gandamra-Sumagayan, Mayor Juhar Disomimba, members of the Sangguniang Bayan, barangay officials, traditional elders, and community leaders who worked together toward a peaceful resolution.

As a symbol of sincerity and commitment to reconciliation, both parties solemnly swore on the Holy Qur'an and agreed to waive their respective complaints, choosing peace, understanding, and harmony over continued conflict.

The Municipality of Taraka likewise acknowledges the support of the Taraka Municipal Police Station, led by Acting Chief of Police PCPT Gian Carlo E. Demetion, and the Philippine Army for ensuring proper security and an orderly settlement process.

This peaceful resolution reflects the power of dialogue, mediation, and collective responsibility in resolving disputes and strengthening relationships among communities. May this settlement serve as a foundation for renewed trust, stronger brotherhood, and lasting peace between Taraka and Tamparan.

ALHAMDULILLAH! The Municipality of Taraka, under the leadership of Mayor Nashiba U. Sumagayan and Vice Mayor Mohammad Aquil G. Sumagayan, successfully conducted Linggo ng Kabataan 2026 on August 24–26, 2026, with the theme “Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation Through Technology and Partnerships.”

Organized by the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of the Municipality of Taraka, the three-day celebration brought together young people from junior and senior high schools, out-of-school youth, and youth organizations to showcase their talents, creativity, leadership, teamwork, and innovative abilities.

The celebration featured various activities including the Taraka Youth Fun Olympics, Team Building and Amazing Race, Youth Skills and Cook-Off Challenge, Visual Arts Competition, Youth Eco-Innovation Challenge, Creative Competition Showcase, Talent Competition, Community Clean-Up Drive, and Quiz Bee. The event culminated with the awarding of winners and the closing program.

Through the leadership and support of Mayor Nashiba U. Sumagayan and Vice Mayor Mohammad Aquil G. Sumagayan, the celebration provided a meaningful platform for the youth to develop their skills, strengthen friendships and partnerships, promote responsible use of technology, and actively participate in community development. The successful celebration reaffirmed the Municipality of Taraka’s commitment to empowering the youth as valuable partners in building a stronger, more innovative, and progressive community.

The Local Government Unit of Taraka, under the leadership of Mayor Nashiba U. Sumagayan and Vice Mayor Mohammad Aquil G. Sumagayan, conducted a meeting of the Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) to discuss important updates on the municipality’s regular programs and social protection initiatives. The meeting covered the status of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (P3), the Cash Card Status as of August 2026, and the validated beneficiaries under SET 14 E & F. The council also discussed the election of the MAC Vice Chairperson and the addition of new MAC members to further strengthen community participation and coordination. The meeting reaffirmed the LGU’s commitment to responsive governance and ensuring that programs and services effectively reach qualified beneficiaries in the Municipality of Taraka.

The Local Government Unit of Taraka successfully conducted the Senior Citizens’ 1st and 2nd Quarter Payout on August 17 and 18, 2026, benefiting a total of 927 senior citizens from the municipality courtesy of the MSSD-BARMM. The payout was held on Day 1 at Buadi Dayomangga, Taraka, Lanao del Sur, and on Day 2 at the Municipal Sports Complex, Taraka, Lanao del Sur, with each beneficiary receiving a total amount of ₱6,000 for the two quarters. The activity reflects the LGU’s continued commitment to supporting the welfare and needs of senior citizens through the timely delivery of social protection assistance. Under the leadership of Mayor Nashiba U. Sumagayan and Vice Mayor Mohammad Aquil G. Sumagayan, the Municipality of Taraka remains committed to ensuring that government assistance reaches qualified beneficiaries in an organized, accessible, and responsive manner.

The Municipality of Taraka, under the leadership of Mayor Nashiba U. Sumagayan, successfully underwent the LOGFA Provincial Assessment on August 19, 2026, conducted by the assessment team from the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) – Lanao del Sur. The assessment team was composed of Provincial Director Cader D. Indar, Jr., Ali Mangotara, Atty. Anisah P. Camama, Sharifah M. Serad, Janirah M. Tago, Janina T. Pangandaman, Johara M. Ibra, and Amin G. Umpar. The activity served as an important opportunity to assess the municipality’s compliance, performance, and implementation of key local governance standards under the Local Governance Performance Management framework. The Local Government Unit of Taraka expresses its appreciation to the MILG assessment team for their guidance and evaluation, and remains committed to continuously improving its systems, programs, and services in pursuit of accountable, effective, and responsive local governance.

The Municipality of Taraka, under the leadership of Mayor Nashiba U. Sumagayan and Vice Mayor Mohammad Aquil G. Sumagayan, successfully conducted the preparatory meeting for the 2026 Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Conference on August 3, 2026, at the Municipal Conference Room. The meeting served as a venue to discuss the objectives of the upcoming conference, the CSO accreditation process, and the important role of civil society organizations in promoting inclusive, participatory, and responsive local governance. Discussions also covered the basic documentary requirements for accreditation, its benefits, the roles and responsibilities of accredited CSOs, and the opportunities available for organizations to actively participate in local governance. During the open forum, representatives from various sectors shared recommendations and concerns, including the establishment of a designated terminal for the Taraka Drivers Association in Marawi City, access to the municipal rice mill for farmers and fisherfolk, and continued support for youth and health sector initiatives. The Municipal Local Government Operations Office (MLGOO) also encouraged the accreditation and active participation of more organizations from different sectors to further strengthen collaboration between the local government and the community. The activity concluded with a shared commitment among the LGU and civil society organizations to foster stronger partnerships, broaden community participation, and advance programs that contribute to the sustainable development of the Municipality of Taraka.
