The RLGC is a prestigious recognition initiated by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Eastern Visayas for local government units that demonstrate good performance in various areas of governance and service delivery. The assessment emphasizes the LGUโs capacity to sustain good governance practices and provide responsive services to its constituents. The assessment team from DILG Samar were composed of Cluster Head LGOO VII Carolina O. Ampong, LGOO V Engr. Myla Nicolasora, LGOO II Atty. Joshua Marlo Amistoso, LGOO II Jennelyn Almeria and LGOO II Engr. Roque Abeto and coordinated with MLGOO Guillermo D. Cajurao
For Tarangnan, the pursuit of the RLGC represents more than an award. It is a continuing commitment to improve government systems, strengthen accountability, and ensure that programs and services directly respond to the needs of the people.
The LGU has been intensifying its preparations through the documentation, validation, and monitoring of governance initiatives and accomplishments across ten (10) Governance Areas, such as Finanical Administration, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection, Peace, Security and Order, Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness, Environmental Management, Health Compliance, Sustainable Education, Tourism, Heritage, Culture and the Arts and Youth Development.
The municipality has likewise been strengthening coordination among its various departments, barangays, local councils, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure that governance initiatives are properly implemented and documented.
The preparation comes as Tarangnan continues to build on its local governance achievements. In 2026, the municipality also conducted an orientation related to the Regional Local Governance Champion initiative, further demonstrating its continuing drive for excellence in local governance.
The municipality's barangays have also contributed to this culture of good governance. Tarangnan was among the municipalities in Samar with barangays recognized as passers of the 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay (SGLGB), demonstrating governance efforts at the grassroots level.
The municipal officials through Mayor Danilo V. Tan, Vice Mayor Engr. Arnel R. Tan, the local functionaries and representatives from National Government Agencies, are optimistic that the collective efforts of the LGU, coupled with the support and participation of the community, will help Tarangnan achieve its long-standing aspiration of becoming an RLGC awardee for the first time.
The journey toward the RLGC is expected to further inspire the municipality to institutionalize good governance practices and continuously improve the delivery of basic services.
As Tarangnan vies for its first RLGC Award, the LGU remains guided by a simple but meaningful goal: to make good governance a continuing practice and to translate every government program into meaningful benefits for the people of Tarangnan. As the assessment concludes, Tarangnan passed the 10 governance areas and is now considered a potential passer.
โThis is not merely a race for an award. This is our commitment to excellence, accountability, and better public service for every Tarangnanon, Mayor Tan enthused.โ
