Strengthening Collaboration, Broadening Perspectives: PA SMC CL 18-2026 Foreign Academic Travel to the Kingdom of Thailand

The Philippine Army Sergeant Major Course Cl 18-2026 successfully conducted their Foreign Academic Travel (FAT) to the Kingdom of Thailand on 22-24 April 2026. FAT is a strategic instrument for force professionalization and international defense cooperation. More than an educational exchange, it is designed to foster collaboration with global military counterparts; gain valuable insights into Southeast Asian countries best practices, cultivate strategic leadership among the SMC students, and broaden knowledge on modernized training methodologies through first-hand exposure to advanced military systems.

During the visit, the delegation, headed by MSg Bob G No MNSA (AGS) PA, the Course Director, visited three key institutions: Royal Thai Army (RTA) Non-Commissioned Officer School, RTA Command and General Staff College, and Defence Technology Institute. These engagements provided the participants with valuable knowledge on Thailand’s military doctrine, training methodologies, best practices, and technological advancements in military hardware.

Overall, the Foreign Academic Travel served as a meaningful avenue for knowledge exchange between the two countries military education and training system. It also enriched the participants’ sociocultural awareness and further strengthened the enduring ties and friendship between the Philippine Army and Royal Thai Army.

Closing Ceremony of PA SMC CL 18-2026

The Non-Commissioned Officer School successfully conducted the Closing Ceremony of the Philippine Army Sergeant Major Course “Lakas-Diwa” Class 18-2026 on 28 April 2026 at Dalubhasa Room, Mabini Hall, Camp O’Donnell, Capas, Tarlac.

CMS Marvin M Jurane (Inf) PA, Sergeant Major, Philippine Army, graced the ceremony as the Guest of Honor and Speaker. He delivered an insightful message, sharing a personal framework—a core philosophy anchored on excellence, professionalism, and discipline, that guided his entire career.

He emphasized that excellence is not about perfection, but about the continuous pursuit of improvement. It’s the difference between being adequate and being exceptional, the difference between going through the mission and truly serving with purpose. Meanwhile, on professionalism, he stressed that it is not defined by actions when being observed but by character displayed even when no one is watching. Highlighting that true leaders are those who lift others even when they are carrying their own burdens. Lastly, he described discipline as the “bread and butter” of every soldier—the very foundation upon which excellence and professionalism stand. Without it, excellence is just a waste; professionalism is just performance.

As the graduates conclude their SMC journey, they carry with them not only the competencies they developed throughout the course but also the valuable lessons imparted by CMS Jurane. SMC graduates, you are now entrusted to lead with excellence, professionalism, and discipline.

The Non-Commissioned Officer School successfully culminated the Drill Master Course “Masinag” Class 64-2026 on 24 April 2026 at AVR 1 Camacho Hall, Camp O’Donnell, Capas, Tarlac.

The ceremony was graced by MSg John C Bullanday MNSA (CE) PA, Acting Command Sergeant Major, TRACOM, PA, as the Keynote Speaker who delivered an inspirational message to the graduates.

He quoted "Kung ano ang nakikita sa nakatatanda, yun ang ginagaya ng nakababata," emphasizing that young soldiers emulate what they observe from their seniors. He highlighted that Drill Masters must always lead by example, instill discipline through precision, and inspire others by demonstrating the highest standards of military bearing.

He further challenged the graduates to ensure application of the knowledge, skills and attitude they gained from the training. Highlighting that true mastery is not only demonstrated by what one knows, but with the ability to teach, impart, and pass on knowledge to others. He added that a true Drill Master is measured not only by the number of parades he supervised, but by the number of Drill Masters he created.

As the DMC “Masinag” CL 64-2026 marches on to greater responsibilities, may they embody the lessons that SM Bullanday imparted—leading by example, upholding discipline, and sharing their knowledge to develop future Drill Masters.
