“The youth have so much potential, but to be able to realize that, we really have to be more focused on the capability-building.”
This is how Kaiser Christoffer D.C. Del Valle, the incumbent 4-H Provincial Federation President in Northern Samar, sees how the younger generation can be more involved in the agriculture sector.
As a 4-H President, he also mentioned the importance of joining youth organizations as it helps in building good values, networks, and leadership skills at a young age.
The young farmer shared that during his stint, he was able to secure the support of the Sangguniang Kabataan, through the Provincial Youth Summit, for the conduct of several 4-H activities such as the provision of farm inputs, technical advisory, and field monitoring, among others.
Kaiser is one of the participants in the Design Thinking Workshop conducted by the Agricultural Training Institute early this month.
The goal of the activity is to build on the ideas of the youth so they may be able to operationalize and implement their agricultural projects in their respective areas. During the workshop, his pitch is to transform and rebrand the image of agriculture for the younger generation.
“We need to be transformative and equip them with knowledge since times are changing and so are the youth,” he said.
He cited that Design Thinking and other creative and collaborative approaches for training are some good ways to connect with the youth.
