Strengthening the Philippine Vegetable Industry! The Department of Agriculture–Caraga personnel joined the 2026 National Vegetable Congress held on August 18–20, 2026 in Davao City. The event showcased booths from government agencies and private companies, featured insightful plenary sessions, and highlighted the latest advancements, innovations, and strategies to strengthen vegetable production and the industry nationwide.

The farm tours also provided valuable on-site learning, showcasing innovative vegetable production practices, technologies, and successful farming enterprises. A meaningful avenue to learn, connect, and bring home new ideas for a more competitive, resilient, and sustainable vegetable industry in Caraga!

Those little white cocoons are actually a very good sign in the garden 🐛 What’s happening:
🐝 Beneficial parasitoid wasps have already found the hornworm and laid their eggs inside it.
⚪ The white structures on its back are wasp cocoons, not hornworm eggs.
🌿 I leave a parasitized hornworm alone so the adult wasps can emerge.
🐛 Those tiny wasps can then help control additional hornworms naturally.
🍅 If I find a healthy hornworm without cocoons eating my tomatoes, that’s when I’ll usually hand-pick it.
Sometimes the garden’s pest control crew arrives before we do.

A new livelihood opportunity is taking flight in Caraga!

During the LegisHear activity at Caraga State University, the Trento Research and Experiment Station (Trento RES) turned technology into tangible support by distributing 1,000 Itik Pinas ducklings to 2 farmer groups: 500 heads – Ampayon Farmers Association, led by Anjon Berendez; 500 heads – Nongnong Farmers Association, led by Shiela Maglines

These ducklings are more than just livestock but they represent additional income, food on the table, and greater opportunities for our farming communities.

From a thousand ducklings comes a thousand reasons to hope, grow, and prosper!

Every journey becomes meaningful when it brings hope to those who need it most. ❤️❤️❤️💪💪💪

Despite the long and challenging trip to the remote community of Binicalan, San Luis, Agusan del Sur, every kilometer was worth it as we reached the Indigenous Peoples of the Tagbuligan ku Banwaon Daw Manobo Talaandig Dini Ta Adgawan (TAGBAMATAAD), CADT 079.

Through the collaborative efforts of the Trento Research and Experiment Station (Trento RES) and the Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4Ks) Program, we successfully delivered 6,000 Robusta coffee seedlings worth ₱150,000—an investment not only in coffee production but also in sustainable livelihoods, food security, and a brighter future for our Indigenous communities.

The genuine smiles, warm welcome, and grateful hearts of our IP farmer-beneficiaries made every hour of travel worthwhile. Their joy reminds us that true public service is not measured by the distance we travel, but by the lives we touch and the opportunities we create.

This initiative reflects our shared commitment to empowering Indigenous communities through agricultural development, ensuring that even the most geographically isolated areas have access to technologies and opportunities that improve lives.

Together, we are planting more than coffee but we are planting hope, resilience, and a future of sustainable prosperity.

Participating in the 58th Pest Management Council of the Philippines (PMCP) Annual Scientific Conference 2026 provided an excellent opportunity to renew and update knowledge while gaining new insights into the latest technological advances in pest management. The conference showcased innovative approaches, emerging technologies, and recent scientific breakthroughs in the management of insect pests, plant diseases, and w**ds. It also highlighted the discovery and monitoring of emerging and previously unknown pests that pose new challenges to Philippine agriculture. The knowledge and experiences gained from this event will strengthen ongoing research and development initiatives, enhance science-based pest management strategies, and contribute to improving agricultural productivity and sustainability in the Caraga Region.
