Success often starts with a single step—and for Proserfida M. Jamera, it was a decision to believe in her abilities and create something she could truly call her own.
A dedicated woman farmer, Proserfida brought with her years of experience in making salabat (ginger powder) and turmeric—skills she first learned while living in Manila. When she moved to an island community, she faced a different reality: fewer opportunities and limited access to resources. But instead of feeling discouraged, she chose to turn her knowledge into a livelihood.

With resilience and determination, she began producing turmeric powder and salabat with the resources she had. From these humble beginnings, Florie’s Turmeric Powder Manufacturing was born—a small venture built on hard work, courage, and the desire to succeed despite constraints.
Eager to grow, she sought guidance from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). What she initially saw as just registering her business became a turning point in her journey. Through business name registration, her products gained identity and credibility, allowing more people to recognize and trust what she offered.

With DTI’s support, her products improved in quality and presentation. Assistance with packaging and labeling made her turmeric and salabat more attractive to customers. Participation in trade fairs opened new market opportunities, while trainings and seminars helped her develop the mindset and skills to run and sustain a business.

Today, what started as a simple skill has flourished into a promising enterprise. Proserfida’s journey exemplifies the power of determination, learning, and taking that first brave step toward a better future.
Her story reminds us that even in places with limited opportunities, growth is always possible for those willing to act, adapt, and believe in themselves.

March 24, 2026 | Tubajon, Dinagat Islands — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through Negosyo Center Tubajon, participated in the closing program of the National Women’s Month Celebration held at the San Roque Gym in Barangay San Roque. This marked the successful conclusion of activities conducted across all nine barangays of the municipality from March 9 to 16, 2026.

The month-long initiative was organized in partnership with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), led by Anhalou T. Ebol-Bagacay, RSW, and in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) – MOO Tubajon - Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, represented by Jennifher A. Sarsale, PDO II, and Shiela Dane J. Rafols, PDO II.

A main highlight of the celebration was the Barangay-Wide Gender Sensitivity and Women Empowerment Advocacy Campaign, which engaged women from various sectors, including 4Ps beneficiaries. The initiative aimed to promote gender equality, enhance women’s participation in community development, and foster inclusivity in socio-economic opportunities.

As part of the inter-agency effort, DTI–Negosyo Center Tubajon conducted a Financial Literacy for Women session, facilitated by Junior Business Counselor Bamboo Y. Montilla. The session focused on practical financial management strategies such as budgeting, savings, and responsible spending, equipping participants with tools to better manage household finances and avoid unnecessary debt.

Participants were also introduced to basic entrepreneurial concepts, encouraging them to explore small business ventures as potential sources of additional income. In line with this, DTI-NC explained its core services, including business name registration, entrepreneurial mentoring, skills training, and access to market opportunities—support mechanisms designed to help women start and sustain their own businesses.

The campaign further highlighted the vital role of women in driving economic growth and community development. It emphasized that empowering women results in stronger families and more resilient communities, contributing significantly to local progress and nation-building.

With the conclusion of the National Women’s Month activities, the DTI through Negosyo Center Tubajon reaffirmed its commitment to advancing women’s empowerment through inclusive programs, ongoing capacity-building, and accessible services aimed at enabling women to thrive as entrepreneurs and community leaders.
