Obesity is a complex, chronic disease influenced by genetics, environment, lifestyle, and access to healthcare โ€” not simply a matter of willpower. It increases the risk of serious conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and certain cancers.

Today is a reminder that prevention, early support, balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and compassionate care can make a life-changing difference. Letโ€™s move from stigma to support and work together to create healthier communities for all. ๐Ÿ’™

Through informed food choices, regular physical activity, and supportive environments, we can work together to prevent obesity and reduce its related health risks.

"Giving your heart some love with Pinggang Pinoy ๐ŸŒŸ: balanced meals, healthier choices, and a longer life ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’–

A heart-healthy diet is your primary defense against cardiovascular disease.

Diets heavy in salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats significantly raise the risk of heart attacks and strokesโ€”a critical issue in the Philippines, where heart disease caused one-third of all deaths in 2021.
The World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizes that lifelong healthy eating is the key to a longer, more vibrant life.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Simple Plate Upgrades
You can improve your heart health by making these straightforward adjustments to your meals:
โœ… The 50% Rule: Devote half of every plate to a variety of fruits and vegetables.
โœ… Smart Carbs: Swap white grains for whole options like brown rice or oats.
โœ… Lean Protein: Prioritize fish, poultry, beans, and nuts over fatty red meats.
โœ… Healthy Fats: Use oils like olive or canola, and eat fatty fish like bangus or salmon.
โœ…The "Lessen" List: Keep salt under one teaspoon daily and ensure added sugars make up less than 10% of your total calories.

๐Ÿ˜‰ Small Changes, Lasting Results

The DOST-FNRI created Pinggang Pinoy as a visual guide to help Filipinos master portion control and nutrition effortlessly. By making these minor, consistent shifts in what you eat, you can boost your energy, stabilize your weight, and provide your heart with long-term protection.

๐Ÿฅ— Don't waitโ€”start today. Every meal is an opportunity to choose health for yourself and your family. A strong heart begins with the food you put on your plate.

Maaaring bisitahin ang 2024 Menu Guide Calendar - Delights for your Heart: Healthy Recipes for Individuals with Hypertension na ginawa ng DOST-FNRI (https://www.fnri.dost.gov.ph/images/images/standardtools/MenuGuideCalendar/MGC-2024.pdf).
