Rice is more than food—it represents the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of our farmers. 💚

The Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Tubungan, in coordination with Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) and Tubungan Vegetable Producer Association (TVPA) continues to support the local farmers through the Rice Distribution Program, providing much-needed assistance to qualified recipients.

Each qualified recipient receives one (1) 10-kilogram sack of rice as part of the assistance.

Through programs like this, this reaffirms the commitment to the farmers and agricultural communities. Every bag of rice distributed is a simple yet meaningful way of recognizing their hard work and contribution to the municipality's food security.

The Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Tubungan participated in the conduct of the Commission on Audit (COA) Audit and Validation of projects implemented under the Department of Agriculture (DA) – Organic Agriculture Program in the municipality.

The activity aims to promote transparency, accountability, and proper utilization of government resources by reviewing and validating the implementation of projects, interventions, equipment, and other assistance provided under the program.

Through this audit, the concerned agencies and local implementers ensure that projects are properly documented, implemented as intended, and that government assistance is utilized responsibly for the benefit of the intended farmer-beneficiaries.

As part of the validation, the warehouse and plant nursery located in Brgy. Male, Tubungan, Iloilo were inspected and validated by the audit team. The validation focused on the existence, condition, utilization, and implementation of the facilities provided under the Organic Agriculture Program.

The LGU Tubungan under the leadership of Mayor Roquito Tacsgon, through its Municipal Agriculture Office headed by Ms. Marjorie Tacardon, remains committed in supporting transparent, accountable, and responsible implementation of agricultural programs for the continued development of our local farming communities.

The Municipal Agriculture Office of Tubungan through the barangays covered of MASS and BILTTA Rice Clusters successfully established In**ed Rice Variety Mixtures (VarMix) as part of its continuing efforts to enhance rice productivity and promote the use of quality in**ed rice varieties.

The VarMix consists of the following recommended in**ed rice varieties:
🌾 RSCI RC 216
🌾 NSIC RC 298
🌾 PSB Rc 82
🌾 NSIC RC 238

This initiative aims to provide farmers with access to high-performing rice varieties that are well-suited to local growing conditions, helping improve productivity, strengthen climate resilience, and support sustainable rice production within the municipality.

Through the collaborative efforts of the LGU Tubungan through its Municipal Agriculture Office, Department of Agriculture-Western Visayas under the Masagana Rice Industry Program and the Tubunganon rice farmers, continues to work towards achieving higher yields, better harvests, and enhanced food security for the communities.

𝗘𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗡 𝗙𝗔𝗥𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗚𝗛 𝗙𝗔𝗥𝗠𝗘𝗥 𝗙𝗜𝗘𝗟𝗗 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟

The Municipal Agriculture Office in partnership of Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center 6 (ATI-RTC 6) successfully launched the on-going Farmer Field School (FFS) on Corn Production and Postharvest Management, a 16-week season-long training program designed to equip corn farmers with practical knowledge and hands-on skills to improve productivity, enhance crop quality, and reduce postharvest losses.

The training officially started on June 27, 2026 at Brgy. Tabat, Tubungan, Iloilo and is conducted one half-day per week, allowing participants to learn and immediately apply recommended technologies and practices in their own farms throughout the cropping season. The program is expected to conclude in October 2026.

One of the highlights of the training was the session on Integrated Nutrient Management, facilitated by Mr. Jeniel P. Harder of LGU Zarraga, who served as one of the resource speakers. Through his expertise, participants gained valuable knowledge on sustainable nutrient management practices that promote healthier soils, efficient fertilizer use, and increased corn productivity.

The Farmer Field School also covers essential topics on corn production—from land preparation, crop establishment, and crop management to proper harvesting, drying, storage, and postharvest handling—ensuring that farmers gain comprehensive, season-long learning experiences.

The Municipal Agriculture Office extends its heartfelt appreciation to all the resource speakers, partner agencies, and participating farmers for their commitment to continuous learning and agricultural development.

The Municipal Agriculture Office of Tubungan, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office VI, successfully facilitated the Soil Sampling Activity under the National Soil Health Program (NSHP) through the Mobile Soil Laboratory (MSL) Team.

This initiative aims to monitor and assess the health of the agricultural soils by collecting samples from identified Soil Health Monitoring Sites (SHMS) across selected barangays in Tubungan. The collected soil samples will undergo chemical, physical, and biological analyses to determine their current condition.

The activity supports the development of:
✅ An updated soil fertility map
✅ Improved soil health monitoring
✅ Science-based and site-specific nutrient management recommendations for the farmers.

The Municipal Agriculture Office extends its sincere appreciation to the Department of Agriculture-RFO VI barangay officials, and all stakeholders for their valuable cooperation and support in making this activity successful.

The Municipal Agriculture Office – Climate Information Center advises all farmers and residents of Tubungan to stay updated on the latest weather forecast.

Based on the forecast, light rain and cloudy conditions are expected throughout the period, with an estimated total rainfall of 25–200 mm, temperatures ranging from 23°C to 33°C, and relative humidity of 60%–98%. As of the latest update, there is no active tropical cyclone affecting the country.

We encourage everyone, especially our farming communities, to take the necessary precautions to minimize the effects of prolonged rainfall on crops, livestock, and farm operations.
