DTI-IBP-BJMP JOINT FORCE IN ENHANCING THE SKILLS OF PERSONS DEPRIVED OF LIBERTY OF TUGUEGARAO CITY DISTRICT JAIL FEMALE DORMITORY.
Last October 28, 2023, through the guidance of SJO4 Clara Edena C Laggui, Officer-In-Charge, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines - Cagayan Chapter led by Atty. Girlie Mae D. Cuntapay, Chairperson and GAD Committee and the Department of Trade and Industry – Region 02 represented by Atty. Michael B. Paggabao, OIC-Chief SMEDD jointly initiated the program, dubbed as, “Hope Behind Bars. A Livelihood Opportunity for Women Persons Deprived of Liberty” through Skills Training on Scented Candle Making in this jail facility. The 2-day capacity building activity was actively participated and successfully completed by the personnel designate Skills Enhancement Program Officer and twenty – four (24) PDL. A total of Php7,000.00 worth of training materials provided by the above-mentioned agencies was utilized during the activity. The participants were taught and assisted by Mr. Dante Miravel, the Trainor, the fundamentals of candle making such as design testing and development, correct wax melting temperatures and pouring techniques. The partakers were also allowed to combine their manual abilities with their floating and fragrant candles.
During the Closing Program, Atty. Joel C. Agra, Judge, MTC – Tuao, Cagayan joined the abovementioned attendees from IBP-Cagayan Chapter and DTI-Region 02 on October 29, 2023. Certificate of Completion was awarded to the personnel and all PDL participants. On the other hand, Atty. Michael B. Paggabao, Project Director, presented Certificate of Award from the DTI-Region 02, as proof of its commitment to provide livelihood kits to Women Persons Deprived of Liberty amounting Php 37,500.00. The Chairperson of IBP-Cagayan pledged to support the PDL in marketing their products for sustainability of the new income generating livelihood activity. The activity culminated after awarding a Certificate of Appreciation to the IBP-Cagayan Chapter and DTI officers, as our token of appreciation for the gender responsive support to our PDL.
This activity aims to to help the PDL acquire skills and entrepreneurial knowledge for sustainability and preparation for reintegration to the mainstream and to enjoin the cooperation of all personnel and Persons Deprived of Liberty for the appropriate, peaceful and successful implementation of the line-up of activities during the weeklong celebration.
