DTI Supports OWWA in Empowering 80 OFWs through Entrepreneurship Training

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – In a strong show of inter-agency collaboration, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2, served as the technical partner for the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) RWO 2 during its Entrepreneurial Development Training (EDT) held on April 28, 2026.

The training, an initiative of OWWA under the Balik Pinas Balik Hanapbuhay (BPBH) Program, was held at the OWWA Multi-Purpose Hall in Carig Sur. It aimed to equip eighty (80) OFW participants with the necessary skills and mindset to successfully reintegrate into the local economy as business owners.

During the session, Shaina Syra Barrera, Business Counselor of Negosyo Center Tuguegarao City, discussed Business Opportunity Identification and Simple Business Plan Preparation. This was followed by a presentation on Financial Literacy by Charmaine Carag, NC-TIDA. Both sessions aimed to provide the participants with practical insights as they begin their journey into the local business landscape.

OWWA Regional Director Virsie B. Tamayao spoke on the transformative power of starting a business, describing it as a gateway to both financial and personal freedom. She emphasized that while foreign earnings provide security, nothing compares to the fulfillment of staying home and being present for every milestone of their family’s life.

DTI Region 2 remains committed to supporting OWWA’s programs by providing continuous business advisory services to our "modern-day heroes," helping them build a future where they no longer need to seek opportunities far from home.

DTI Conducts Entrepreneurship Session for EBET Trainees in Tuguegarao City

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan — April 16, 2026 — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Cagayan, through its Negosyo Center, conducted an entrepreneurship session for trainees under the Enterprise-Based Education Training (EBET) program in Tuguegarao City.

The participants were composed of learners enrolled in the Hydraulic Excavator NC II program of a local construction company. The session aimed to provide them with basic knowledge on entrepreneurship as an added competency alongside their technical skills.

Topics discussed included basic entrepreneurship concepts, business plan, and marketing strategies. Participants were introduced to simple ways of identifying business opportunities and promoting products or services, which may be useful for those who may consider engaging in business in the future.
