The Municipality of Lasam takes a bold step toward digital transformation as the Paleng-QR Ph Plus Program officially launches at the Lasam Public Market on April 08, 2026.
Spearheaded by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the program promotes the use of QR-based payments among market vendors, transport groups, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This move paves the way for safer, faster, and more convenient transactions, while strengthening financial inclusion at the grassroots level.
Municipal officials led by Hon. Mayor Dante Dexter A. Agatep Jr. and Hon. Vice Mayor Dannah Paula T. Agatep, expressed full support for the program, highlighting its role in modernizing local businesses and opening more economic opportunities for the community. A video message from BSP Governor Dr. Eli M. Remolona Jr. further emphasized the importance of digitalization in building a more efficient and inclusive payment ecosystem.
The DTI R2 Cagayan Provincial Office, represented by Consumer Protection Division Chief (CPD) Ms. Edelle C. Carranza, reaffirmed its commitment to empowering MSMEs to embrace digital innovation and remain competitive in an increasingly dynamic and fast-evolving economy.
The event gathered national government agencies, local officials, market vendors, transport groups, and key stakeholders, underscoring a significant milestone in Lasamโs journey toward a more inclusive, cashless, and digitally empowered future.
