Held at the DOT Region 2 Conference Hall in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, the final deliberation marked the culmination of a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation process aimed at identifying this yearโ€™s outstanding tourism champions across Cagayan Valley.

The ๐ƒ๐€๐˜๐€๐– ๐€๐ฐ๐š๐ซ๐๐ฌ, the regionโ€™s premier tourism recognition program, honors exceptional individuals, organizations, local government units, tourism enterprises, and community-based initiatives that have demonstrated excellence, innovation, and meaningful contributions to the sustainable growth and development of the tourism industry in Region 2. Through this initiative, DOT Region 2 continues to foster a culture of excellence and encourage tourism stakeholders to champion quality service, innovation, sustainability, and responsible tourism practices.

The deliberation commenced with an orientation for the members of the Board of Judges, providing an overview of the DAYAW Awards 2026 objectives, award categories, evaluation guidelines, scoring system, and assessment procedures. The orientation ensured that all entries would be reviewed based on a uniform set of criteria, promoting a fair, transparent, and objective selection process.

Following the orientation, the Board of Judges proceeded with the presentation and evaluation of nominees from the various award categories. Each nomination, including its supporting documents and accomplishment reports, was carefully reviewed and assessed based on the prescribed qualifications and evaluation criteria. Through thorough discussions and deliberations, the judges examined the impact, significance, and sustainability of the initiatives and contributions of each nominee toward advancing tourism development in the region.

The Board then conducted the consolidation and validation of evaluation scores to determine the highest-ranking nominees for each category. The careful tabulation process ensured the accuracy and integrity of the results, reflecting the collective assessment and impartial judgment of the members of the Board of Judges.

The final deliberation concluded with the confirmation of the official results and the signing of the Board Resolution by the members of the Board of Judges, formally affirming the awardees of the DAYAW Awards 2026. This milestone highlighted the commitment of DOT Region 2 and its partners to uphold transparency, credibility, and excellence in recognizing deserving tourism stakeholders.

DOT Region 2 extends its deepest appreciation to CHED Region 2, DILG Region 2, DepDev Region 2, PIA Region 2, and the academe for their invaluable partnership, expertise, and commitment in ensuring a credible and objective selection process.

Through the collective efforts of the Board of Judges, the DAYAW Awards continues to serve as a platform that recognizes and celebrates tourism champions whose dedication, innovation, and exemplary practices contribute significantly to the growth, sustainability, and competitiveness of the tourism industry in Cagayan Valley

The Municipality of Buguey successfully celebrated the 5th Malaga, Guraman, and Tirem Festival 2026, showcasing its rich coastal heritage, culinary traditions, and resilient community spirit despite the challenges brought by the recent typhoon.
More than a celebration, the festival highlighted Bugueyโ€™s identity as a rising culinary and coastal tourism destination, anchored on its abundant fisheries resources and the municipalityโ€™s pride in its local delicaciesโ€”Malaga (Rabbitfish), Guraman (Sea Grapes), and Tirem (Oysters).

The festivities opened with the Oplan SSSIRRENA (Single Spat Oyster, Siganid and Seaweed Intensification through Research Regulation Extension services and Nurturing Assistance for the fisherfolk) Press Conference, setting the stage for a series of activities that showcased local culture, culinary creativity, and community participation. The Malaga Festival Dance Competition captivated audiences as students from various schools presented vibrant performances inspired by Bugueyโ€™s fishing traditions and deep connection to the sea.

The Kusina ni CERRI Cookfest further highlighted the municipalityโ€™s culinary identity, with local cooks showcasing innovative dishes featuring Bugueyโ€™s prized marine products. The competition demonstrated the versatility of Malaga, Guraman, and Tirem as key ingredients that represent the townโ€™s thriving fisheries industry and local food heritage.

A significant milestone of the celebration was the inauguration of the Agri-Fishery Multi-Purpose Building, the turnover of the Kadiwa Project, and the unveiling of the Malaga and Guraman Tower, reinforcing Bugueyโ€™s commitment to fisheries development, food security, and sustainable livelihood opportunities for its coastal communities.

The festival culminated with the ceremonial grilling and presentation of 2,000 kilograms of Malaga (Rabbitfish), prepared into various local dishes and shared during the much-anticipated Malaga, Guraman, and Tirem Grand Salu-Salo (Pinggang Pinoy). The gathering symbolized Bugueyโ€™s abundant marine resources, hospitality, and strong community spirit.

Outstanding participants were also recognized during the Presentation of Awards, honoring winners of the Malaga Festival Dance Competition, Best Cooked Malaga, Best Cooked Guraman Recipe, Best Cooked Tirem Recipe, Best Dressed Booth, and other festival competitions that celebrated the creativity and talent of Bugueyโ€™s communities.

The successful celebration reflects Bugueyโ€™s continuing efforts to transform its fisheries resources, culinary traditions, and coastal heritage into meaningful tourism experiences that promote local livelihoods and preserve its cultural identity.

With its four major festivals celebrated throughout the year, Buguey continues to strengthen its position as a destination where visitors can experience authentic culture, vibrant traditions, and the flavors of its coastal communities in every season. #

A new batch of community tour guides is ready to showcase the stories, culture, and destinations of Cagayan after successfully completing the seven-day Community Tour Guiding Training Batch 2, conducted from July 20 to 26, 2026, at the Cagayan Provincial Capitol Commissary in Tuguegarao City.

The training was organized by the Provincial Government of Cagayan, through the Cagayan Tourism Office, in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 2, as part of their continuing efforts to strengthen community-based tourism and develop a pool of competent local guides capable of delivering quality visitor experiences.

Thirty-three (33) participants completed the intensive program, which combined classroom instruction, practical exercises, and skills development to prepare them for the responsibilities of professional tour guiding. Beyond interpreting attractions, the participants were trained to become storytellers, cultural ambassadors, and advocates of responsible and sustainable tourism in their respective communities.

Adding local context to the training, Mr. Kevin D. Baclig, Curator of the Cagayan Museum, led the session on the province's history and cultural heritage. His discussions underscored the value of preserving local identity and transforming historical and cultural resources into meaningful visitor experiences through effective interpretation.

For six days, Mr. Romano D. Del Rosario guided the participants through the core competencies of tour guiding, including tour management, communication techniques, and the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence (FBSE). The sessions reinforced the importance of professionalism, service excellence, and creating memorable experiences that encourage visitors to return and promote Cagayan as a destination.

Recognizing that safety is an essential component of quality tourism, the participants also underwent hands-on training in Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid, facilitated by Mr. Ivan Brix C. Adducul, Senior Safety and Health Instructor, together with Ms. Vanet L. Viloria of the Philippine Red Cross-Cagayan Chapter. The practical exercises equipped future tour guides with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively to emergencies while ensuring the welfare of tourists.

The successful completion of the training reflects the continuing collaboration between the Provincial Government of Cagayan and DOT Region 2 in building a more capable and resilient tourism workforce. By investing in local talent and strengthening the competencies of community tour guides, the partnership continues to advance sustainable tourism development while creating greater economic opportunities for communities across the province.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 2, through its Product and Market Development (PMD) Unit, conducted a four-day site assessment of the proposed Tumauini Tourism Circuit from July 21 to 24, 2026, under the Tourism Circuit Development Assistance Program of the DOT Central Office.

The site assessment forms part of the implementation of the Tourism Circuit Development Assistance Program, through which the Municipality of Tumauini received technical and financial assistance from the DOT Central Office following the successful project proposal developed and submitted by DOT Region 2. The approved assistance supports the development of a market-ready tourism circuit that integrates the municipality's heritage, nature, adventure, and indigenous cultural attractions into a cohesive visitor experience.

The assessment was conducted in collaboration with the DOT Central Office โ€“ Office of Product Development (OPD) and was participated in by representatives from the Isabela Provincial Tourism Office, the Philippine National Police Tourist-Oriented Police for Community Order and Protection (TOPCOP), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), and the Local Government Unit of Tumauini.

The assessment began with visits to the Saint Matthias Parish Church, a National Cultural Treasure, the Municipal Park and Heritage Tree House, and Camp Samal Hotel and Resort. These sites were evaluated for their contribution to the proposed tourism circuit.

The team also assessed key attractions within the Tumauini Watershed Natural Park, including Tan-awan Bato, Sinabuluan Cave, Kweba Danum, and Blue Spring River. These destinations were evaluated for their potential to support nature-based and adventure tourism.

On the third day, the team visited Pallacot Falls, Magoli Eco Park, and Sam's Eco Farm and Camp. The itinerary included an overnight camping activity and a cultural presentation by the Tinguian (Itneg) Tribe, highlighting the municipality's indigenous heritage and its role in the proposed tourism circuit.

Throughout the assessment, each site was evaluated based on tourism appeal, visitor experience, accessibility, safety, sustainability, and readiness for inclusion in the tourism circuit.

The Tourism Circuit Development Assistance Program aims to strengthen destination development by assisting local government units in packaging tourism assets into market-ready tourism products. In Tumauini, the initiative supports the development of an integrated tourism circuit that features the municipality's cultural heritage, protected landscapes, caves, waterfalls, rivers, and indigenous traditions.

The completion of the site assessment marks a key milestone in the development of the Tumauini Tourism Circuit. The findings and recommendations generated during the assessment will guide the preparation of the tourism circuit development plan and the enhancement of visitor experiences.

Through sustained collaboration with the DOT Central Office, national government agencies, the local government, stakeholders, and host communities, DOT Region 2 continues to advance sustainable tourism development and strengthen the competitiveness of destinations across Cagayan Valley.
