August 15, 2026. For many Grade 10 students, Saturday usually means a break from school. For more than 500 students from 13 secondary schools across Tumauini, this Saturday became a chance to think seriously about what comes next.

Now on its 4th year, the Municipal Career Guidance Program brought the students together through the ๐Œ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐œ๐ข๐ฉ๐š๐ฅ ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐Ž๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ข๐œ๐ž (๐Œ๐˜๐ƒ๐Ž) and the ๐’๐Š ๐…๐ž๐๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐“๐ฎ๐ฆ๐š๐ฎ๐ข๐ง๐ข, in collaboration with PESO Tumauini.

๐‡๐จ๐ง. ๐’๐ก๐š๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐š-๐‹๐ฎ ๐. ๐Œ๐ž๐๐ซ๐š๐ง๐จ spent time with the students, encouraging them to choose kindness as they pursue their chosen career paths. A simple reminder, but one worth carrying into whatever profession they eventually choose.

The conversation went beyond the usual question, โ€œWhat do you want to be when you grow up?โ€ ๐Œ๐ฌ. ๐‚๐ž๐œ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ข๐š ๐‚๐ฅ๐š๐ข๐ซ๐ž ๐‰. ๐‘๐ž๐ฒ๐ž๐ฌ, ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฏ๐ข๐ง๐œ๐ข๐š๐ฅ ๐๐„๐’๐Ž ๐Œ๐š๐ง๐š๐ ๐ž๐ซ, walked the students through the realities of the labor market and the qualities employers look for, giving them a glimpse of what awaits beyond high school.

The afternoon opened the floor for questions, stories, and honest exchanges between the students and the resource speaker. Some came with clear plans. Others were still figuring things out.

And perhaps that is exactly what career guidance is for, not to have all the answers at 15 or 16, but to start asking the right questions.
