The Bureau of Customs, through a joint operation with partner law enforcement agencies seized smuggled broccoli, carrots, red onions, and other imported products in an inspection conducted in a warehouse in Catmon, Malabon City. Said operation took place on November 11, 2021 and the agricultural products seized are estimated to be worth Php 4, 724, 000.
Armed with a letter of Authority and Mission Order issued by the Commissioner of Customs, the implementing team was composed of Manila International Container Port-Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, (MICP-CIIS), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Department of Agriculture (DA), National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) which proceeded to the said warehouse for an initial inspection.
Upon inspection of one of the warehouses inside the compound, seven re**er vans used as temporary cold storage were discovered. Three were found to be containing smuggled broccoli, carrots, red onions, and other imported products, four of which are empty.
Temporary seals and padlocks are in place to secure the said warehouse. Inventory of the goods is underway which shall be conducted by the customs examiner and witnessed by CIIS, Enforcement and Security Service (ESS), and PCG.
The Bureau of Customs assures the public that it will remain vigilant in protecting the country against the entry of smuggled agricultural products.
