Dear Friends, Fellow IP CSOs, Donors and Partners.
Good day!
The Indigenous Women Resource Center (IWRC) in partnership with United Indigenous Peoples Youth Organization Inc. (UNIPYO), Tuklas Katutubo (TK), Non Moro Indigenous Peoples Youth Network (NMIPYN) and local partner Lambangian Manganguda Bangkeson (TLAMABANG), Ms. Ennah Pahati and volunteers would like to thank all those who provided support, be it in cash or in- kinds, to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Barangay Itaw who were affected by the armed conflict in the area.
Through your generous support, the above-mentioned organizations have spearheaded an emergency relief assistance called “TOWONG South UpI” with the primary aim of generating and delivering support to address the immediate needs of our fellow Indigenous Peoples especially the 13 families whose houses were totally burnt when the barangay was attacked by armed groups.
In this regard, the TOWONG South Upi or “Help South Upi” would like to thank the various groups and individuals, friends, and relatives who openly shared some of their blessing to the people of Brgy. Itaw. We would like to extend our utmost gratitude for your trust to the organizations behind “Towong South Upi". Please be assured that your donations will surely reach our needy brothers and sisters.
To give you an update, on January 30, 2021, Towong had finally delivered the assistance to the IDPs whereby the first batch of 200 IDP families out of the 599 families affected by the conflict had been served. The activity has been postponed twice due to the difficult circumstances in going to the place because of the security situation and road condition during rainy days. We are planning to conduct another humanitarian response to reach all the 599 IDP families. Thus, TOWONG SOUTH UPI is still accepting donations from benevolent individuals, groups and institutions.
Furthermore, the 13 IDP Families received food items such as rice (10 kilos), canned good (sardines and corned beef), noodles, and non-food items including, pre-loved clothing’s, cooking pots (Kaldero, plates, glasses, mats, blankets, and hygiene kits like, soap, shampoo, toothbrush, water containers. These IDP families are still in vulnerable situation because they are staying in open spaces (tapangko), a space used during market day in Brgy. Itaw. Their temporary shelters have no partitions- everybody is sleeping in open spaces including infants. They sleep and cook in the same place with no designated latrine facilities. The only available comfort room is at the Barangay Hall.
Project Towong South Upi has provided hygiene kits, milk, diapers, baby’s dress, blanket, mats and food items to two women with newly-born babies. They had actually delivered babies in the evacuations center. TOWONG had took note that these two nursing mothers actually need further assistance to make sure that the mothers and babies’ health condition are addressed.
The Local Government Unit through the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) facilitated provided cash, food and non- food assistance while the MSSD -BARMM and other CSOs , along with TOWONG Upi were among the institutions and organizations, so far who extended support to the IPDPs.
On the other hand, the LGU and security sectors and concerned individuals are working and setting-out the mechanisms to resolve the conflict so that the IDPs can eventually return home safely and thereby live peacefully in the earliest possible time.
Towong South Upi on its part is also praying and continue to support the groups and individuals who are working hard in protecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples and all the civilians whose lives are put in danger because of armed conflicts.
