𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐁𝐎𝐍 𝐅𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐕𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐒 𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐑𝐎-𝐕𝐀𝐋𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐑𝐀𝐌𝐀

The Haribon Foundation is currently in its second year of implementing the “Safeguarding Central Panay Mountains” Project - an initiative that supports the DENR’s efforts to declare the Central Panay Mountain Range as a Protected Area.

This project aims to strengthen the engagement and governance of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs), in collaboration with key stakeholders, as part of the preparations for the mountain range’s formal establishment as a Protected Area.

In line with this, 𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗕𝗢𝗡 𝗙𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡, 𝗜𝗡𝗖., a CSO-accredited group of the Municipality of Valderrama, through 𝗠𝘀. 𝗝𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗮 𝗔𝗺𝗼𝗿 𝗢. 𝗗𝗮𝗴𝗼𝗵𝗼𝘆, Conservation Specialist for Site Conservation Governance, visited the MENRO-Valderrama to coordinate and align conservation initiatives with local government planning processes. They were warmly welcomed by the MENRO staff headed by 𝗘𝗻𝗣. 𝗙𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗼 𝗗. 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗜𝗜𝗜, OIC-MENRO.

The meeting also focused on preparations for the 𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙮 𝙂𝙪𝙗𝙖𝙩 𝙑𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜, tentatively scheduled on the 2nd week of May 2026, aimed at strengthening the capacity of forest guards and community partners in protecting and preserving our natural resources.

This collaboration highlights the shared commitment of all stakeholders in conserving biodiversity and safeguarding the Central Panay Mountain Range for future generations.

The 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 (𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐑𝐎) of the Local Government Unit of Valderrama actively participated in the 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘆 𝗨𝗯𝗼𝘀, 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮, 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲, held on March 21, 2026, at the Valderrama Cultural and Tourism Center.

Anchored on the theme, “𝙉𝙖𝙜𝙠𝙖𝙠𝙖𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝘽𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙮 𝙏𝙪𝙣𝙜𝙤 𝙨𝙖 𝙆𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙣, 𝙆𝙖𝙖𝙮𝙪𝙨𝙖𝙣, 𝙆𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙮𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙖𝙣 𝙖𝙩 𝙆𝙖𝙪𝙣𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙣,” the activity served as a platform to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders and promote community awareness on key local programs.

The office was represented by 𝗘𝗻𝗣. 𝗙𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗼 𝗗. 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗜𝗜𝗜, OIC-MENRO, who gave a talk on the office’s programs and ongoing initiatives. His discussion emphasized proper Solid Waste Management and environmental stewardship, in line with existing environmental laws, local ordinances, and relevant issuances. He further underscored the importance of collective action in achieving a cleaner, more organized, and sustainable community.

Residents of Barangay Ubos were encouraged to actively participate in maintaining the cleanliness of their surroundings and to take part in initiatives that safeguard the environment for future generations - reflecting the spirit of unity highlighted in the assembly’s theme.

Representatives from other line offices of the LGU also attended and presented their respective programs and services, reinforcing a whole-of-government approach toward inclusive development.

On this International Day of Forests, with the theme “Forests and Economies”, we are reminded of how our forests sustain both life and livelihood. They shield us from floods and landslides, provide food and water, and hold our communities together. Protecting them is a promise of safety, dignity, and economic strength for our people.

Of the country’s 15 million hectares of forest lands, only less than one million hectares are considered primary forest. This calls for urgent action through reforestation, community stewardship, and stronger protection of biodiversity. That is why I have worked to enshrine these commitments in law through the Climate Change Act (RA 9729), the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act (RA 9003), the Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System Act (RA 11038), and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act (RA 10121). These are pledges to future generations, keeping forests at the heart of our journey toward resilience and justice.

Ang kagubatan ay buhay ng bayan. Kapag tayo ay nagtatanim, nagbabantay, at nagmamahal sa kalikasan, ipinapasa natin ang ginhawa at lakas sa mga susunod na salinlahi. 🌱

Valderrama, Antique – As part of its intensified campaign against illegal activities, the Valderrama Municipal Police Station under the leadership of PCPT PAUL JOSEPH P OBERIO, Officer-in-Charge, successfully apprehended an individual for Violation of Presidential Decree No. 705 (Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines) on March 11, 2026, in Barangay Buluangan I, Valderrama, Antique.

During the intelligence-driven operation, the suspect was caught in the act of hauling illegally sawn forest products. The arrested individual was properly informed of his constitutional rights in a dialect he understood. Thereafter, he was brought to Valderrama MPS, together with the confiscated forest products, for proper documentation and disposition.

This operation highlights the commitment of Valderrama MPS in protecting the environment and enforcing forestry laws, ensuring that those who violate environmental regulations are held accountable.

CONFISCATION OF THREE (3) SACKS OF CHARCOAL FOR VIOLATION OF MUNICIPAL ORDINANCE NO. 2011-01 IN RELATION TO PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 705

Personnel of Valderrama Municipal Police Station successfully confiscated three (3) sacks of charcoal for violation of Municipal Ordinance No. 2011-01 in relation to Presidential Decree No. 705 (Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines).

This operation is part of the continuous effort of Valderrama MPS in protecting the environment and ensuring strict compliance with forestry and environmental laws within the municipality.

Authorities remind the public to adhere to existing environmental regulations to prevent illegal activities that may harm our natural resources.

Nagpatigayon ang Office of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources (MENRO) Valderrama, kaimaw kang Sangguniang Barangay kang Brgy. Pandanan, Valderrama, kag student-interns halin sa St. Luke’s Academy Inc., kang clean-up drive sa 100-meter stretch kang creek halin sa Sitio Bagong Bario asta sa Nabaywan Creek.

Tinutuyo kang aktibidad nga mabuol ang mga plastic kag iban pa nga solid waste nga nagabara sa waterways, pagguba kang breeding grounds kang mga lamok, kag paglikaw kang mga indi manami nga dapug nga maka apekto sa lawas kang publiko.

Ginpatigayon ang inisyatibo bilang pagsunod sa direktiba halin sa Environmental Management Bureau Regional Office sa Iloilo City kang Enero 14, 2026 kag gin-endorso kang MENRO Valderrama kang Pebrero 19, 2026.

May kabug-usan nga 10 ka kilo kang gindapun nga plastics, 15 ka kilo kang plastic bottles, kag 30 ka kilo kang mga lata ang nakolekta kag nasaylo sa eco-park para sa nagakaigo nga disposal.

Ang tatlo ka oras nga aktibidad ang natapos las-11:00 sa aga nga may positibo nga resulta.

Tinutuyo akng Barangay kag MENR Office nga masustiner ang effort kag mahingyo ang mga stakeholders nga suportahan ang masunod nga environmental initiatives.

𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐄𝐅𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐔𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐃 𝐄𝐍𝐕𝐈𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 🍃♻️

The Office of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources (MENRO) together with the Barangay Official of Brgy. Pandanan Valderrama Antique and Student-interns from St. Lukes Academy Inc. jointly conducted the Clean-up Drive along the creeks of Brgy. Pandanan covering a 100 meters stretch from Sitio Bagong Bario going to Nabaywan Creek.

The activity intends to Clear the Creek from plastics and other sorts of solid wastes that clog the water passages, to eliminate breeding places for mosquitos and eradicate foul smells that could affect the general health of the people.

This initiative is a concrete response to the mandate from EMB Regional Office, Iloilo City dated January 14, 2026 and transmitted to the Office of the MENR Valderrama on February 19, 2026.

The team collected 10kls of plastics, 15 kls of plastic bottles and 30 kls of cans to be transported to the Eco-park for final disposal.

The Sangguniang Barangay of Brgy. Pandanan and the MENR Office are looking forward to sustain the initiave and encourage other stakeholders to partake in the future. The 3-Hour activity ended at 11 O'clock in the morning with gratifying result.

Saving the earth begins with the belief that it is a home that we are to preserve for the future generations.

Ginpadayon kang lokal nga pamunuan kang Valderrama, paagi sa Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), ang clean-up kag rehabilitation efforts sa Eco-Park kang banwa sa tunga kang pagpanghangkat nga dara kang kaduraan kang sanitary landfill.

Nagapabilin nga isyu sa gihapon ang pagtumpok kang basura, anang hugut nga gina-implementar kang pamunuan ang Safe Closure and Rehabilitation Plan (SCRP) agud masiguro ang nagakaigo nga site management bilang kabahin kang environmental standards.

Aktibo naman nga ginasabat kang MENRO personnel, Eco-Warriors, kag job hire employees ang pagtipon kang mga basura.

Ginahiwat man ang pagtukod kang perimeter fence agud maimproba ang seguridad, control access, kag maprotektahan ang pasilidad.

Ginpamatud-an sa liwan kang lokal nga pamunuan ang commitment ka dya paadto sa responsable nga waste management kag ginpasalamatan ang MENRO personnel para sa andang dedikasyon, lakip ang nagtugro kang andang serbisyo apisar kang holidays.
