OWWA, MAGBUBUKAS NG 10,000 DAGDAG NA SLOTS SA SCHOLARSHIP PARA SA MGA ANAK NG OFW

Inanunsyo ng Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) nitong Miyerkules na magbubukas ito ng 10,000 karagdagang slots para sa scholarship program ng mga anak ng Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). Ito ay matapos lumagda ang ahensya sa isang kasunduan kasama ang Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Ayon kay OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan, ang hakbang na ito ay bunsod ng pagkamit ng ahensya ng pinakamataas na pondo sa loob ng 44 na taon, sakto sa pagdiriwang ng anibersaryo ng OWWA sa darating na Mayo.

“So from 15,000 this year, for the first time, 25,000 na ang matutulungan ng OWWA pagdating po sa anak ng OFWs,” pahayag ni Caunan.

Nag-aalok ang OWWA ng tatlong pangunahing scholarship:

Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP): Nagbibigay ng hanggang P60,000 kada school year para sa 4-5 taong bachelor’s degree.

OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP): Nagbibigay ng P20,000 financial assistance kada school year.

Congressional Migrant Workers Scholarship Program (CMWSP): Para sa mga nais kumuha ng kursong may kaugnayan sa science at technology.

Kasabay nito, inilunsad din ang Lifelong Learning Education Assistance Program for Overseas Filipino Workers (LEAP-OFWs). Layunin nito na mabigyan ng academic degrees ang mga OFW base sa kanilang work experience sa pamamagitan ng Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program, nang hindi na kinakailangang dumaan sa tradisyunal na classroom system.

Labor Education sa Kolehiyo

Sa parehong kaganapan, isinagawa rin ang ceremonial signing ng Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) ng RA 11551 o ang batas na nagsasama ng Labor Education sa tertiary curriculum. Isinagawa ito kasama ang Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) at Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Layunin ng batas na ituro sa mga susunod na manggagawa at employer ang kanilang mga karapatan at responsibilidad upang masiguro ang kaayusan sa mga lugar ng trabaho.

“Sa ganito hong paraan, sinisigurado po natin na lahat po ng ating taumbayan... ay malinaw po sa kanila ang kanilang karapatan, ang mga batas po para sa manggagawa na nasa Pilipinas,” ani TESDA Secretary Jose Francisco “Kiko” Benitez.

Ayon naman kay DOLE Undersecretary Benedicto Bitonio Jr., dadaan ang mga estudyante sa mga mahahalagang paksa tulad ng labor standards at labor relations na kanilang kakaharapin sa pagpasok sa mundo ng pagtatrabaho.
