Every Friday, as the Philippine Flag is lowered, we are reminded that the Flag Retreat is far more than the closing of another school week. It is a solemn ceremony that calls us to pause, reflect, and renew our commitment to the values our National Flag represents: freedom, unity, sacrifice, and patriotism.
In a time when traditions are often overlooked and ceremonies are dismissed as routine, the Flag Retreat remains a powerful reminder that respect for our nation is built through the small acts we choose to uphold. Standing at attention, rendering the proper salute, and witnessing the lowering of our flag are not empty gestures. They are expressions of gratitude to those who fought for the liberties we enjoy today and a pledge that we, too, will do our part in serving our country with honor and integrity.
For Scouts, this ceremony carries an even deeper meaning. Every precise movement reflects discipline. Every salute reflects loyalty. Every folded flag reflects the responsibility entrusted to every Filipino to safeguard the dignity of our nation.
The Flag Retreat deserves neither indifference nor inconvenience. It deserves our presence, our respect, and our understanding, for a nation that forgets to honor its symbols slowly forgets the values those symbols were raised to defend.
