A new chapter in local governance and technological advancement officially unfolded with the formal Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing for the implementation of the DOST Smart and Sustainable Communities Program (SSCP) in San Andres. Held at the LGU Conference Room, the ceremony established a strategic tripartite partnership among the Department of Science and Technology - Region V (DOST-V PSTO Catanduanes), the Local Government Unit of San Andres, and Catanduanes State University (CatSU). This collaborative effort aims to deploy people-centric, science-backed solutions to address local challenges, boost community resilience, and drive inclusive economic growth across the municipality.

The ceremony highlighted strong multi-agency support and a shared commitment to bringing innovation directly to the grassroots level, building on the successful precedent of the program's earlier pilot rollout. Leaders from DOST, CatSU, and LGU San Andres expressed full dedication to sustained technical and administrative collaboration. With the official framework now established, technical teams from all three partner institutions will convene to conduct baseline assessments, coordinate resources, and execute the step-by-step rollout of the SSCP action plan for San Andres.

• Grade 12 students graduating in SY 2026–2027 who belong to the STEM strand or are among the top 5% of their non-STEM graduating class.
• Previous Grade 12 graduates who have not yet enrolled in college and meet the same STEM/non-STEM requirements.

𝘿𝙊𝙎𝙏 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨 𝘽𝙉𝙎 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙎𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙧 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙉𝙪𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣

In celebration of Nutrition Month and National Disaster Resilience Month, DOST, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Catanduanes, successfully conducted the two-day NutriReady: Strengthening Food Safety and Community Resilience through Science and Innovation. The activity brought together Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) from all 10 municipalities of Catanduanes to enhance their knowledge and skills in food safety, proper hygiene, sanitation, contamination prevention, and the safe implementation of community feeding programs.

The training also featured discussions from Catanduanes State University (CatSU) on DOST–FNRI complementary food products and from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) on disaster preparedness and emergency response to ensure the continuity of nutrition services during emergencies. Through NutriReady, DOST and its partners continue to strengthen the capacity of BNS by integrating science, nutrition, food safety, and disaster resilience to build healthier and more resilient communities across Catanduanes.

𝘿𝙊𝙎𝙏 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙨 𝙈𝙎𝙈𝙀 𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝, 𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙨𝙩𝙨 𝙈𝙎𝙈𝙀 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨

In celebration of MSME Month, DOST, in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and other government agencies, successfully conducted the two-day "Compliance 360: Strengthening MSME Competitiveness through Standards and Certification" training in Virac, Catanduanes. The activity brought together 38 SETUP-assisted MSMEs and DOST-assisted community-based groups, primarily from the food sector, to strengthen their understanding of business compliance, food safety, quality standards, and certification requirements essential for business growth.

Experts from DOST, DTI, FDA, BIR, DENR, and Glenwood Technologies Inc. shared programs and services that support MSMEs in achieving regulatory compliance, improving product quality, and expanding market access through digital platforms such as the DOST–Lazada Partnership. Through this initiative, DOST continues to empower local enterprises with the knowledge and opportunities needed to become more competitive in both local and global markets.
