Four Sacramento firefighters, incapacitated by toxic fumes from a Tesla fire, undergo experimental treatment. The intravenous procedure aims to eliminate heavy metals from their lungs and bloodstream, according to Captain Justin Sylvia's statement to KCRA TV. "We've never encountered any injuries related to lithium-ion battery fires before, making this incident the first of its kind," Sylvia remarked. He explained that the firefighters did not wear Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) because the fire had been extinguished and they were in the process of cleaning up. Sylvia now advocates for crews to remain "on air" while attending to electric vehicle battery fires. "A low-lying white cloud, described by the crew members as a 'very low-lying white cloud,' drifted towards them, and they immediately experienced a metallic taste in their mouths. One of the battery's chemicals transforms into acid when it comes into contact with water. When the battery series is compromised, it can lead to a short circuit, triggering thermal runaway and unpredictable behavior."
