ADZU WALKOUT, ENDORSED BY ALL COLLEGE DEANS AND APPROVED BY VPHE!

Through the collective efforts of El Consejo Atenista and Azul Avenida: the alliance of students, academic and non-academic faculty and staff, the university-wide walkout this October 28 has been successfully endorsed by the college deans of the School of Education, School of Management and Accountancy, School of Liberal Arts, College of Nursing, and the College of Science, Information Technology and Engineering. This has also been approved by the Vice President for Higher Education. Students may coordinate with their instructors to discuss class arrangements regarding academic load during this time of the walkout.

This signifies our collective stand and unity in calling out corruption and in amplifying our call for accountability and good governance.

As an Ateneo community imbued by values of justice, discernment, and care for the person, we urge all members of AdZU to stand with us in demanding national renewal - that education is a right, not a privilege.

Ngayong ika-25 ng Agosto, nakikiisa ang SINAG - AdZU sa paggunita ng diwa at pakikibaka ng ating mga ninuno't kasalukuyang bayani–ang mga patuloy na tumatanggol sa karapatan at tunay na demokrasya para sa lipunan at sa sambayanan.

Bigyang-pugay natin ang kanilang walang habas na pagkakaisa sa malawakang masa: mula sa pagka-martir nina Andres Bonifacio, hanggang sa taas-kamaong tapang ng bawat aktibista at tagapangtanggol ng karapatang pantao. Mula sa lansangan hanggang sa paraalan, ang inyong pagmamahal para sa bayan ay nagbibigay lamang sa amin ng determinasyon para ipalawak ang ating tawag para sa mas progresibo, inklusibo, at mas makamasang kinabukasan.

Para sa aming mga manggagawa, g**o, nars, magsasaka, mangingisda, at estudyante – binibigyang-pugay namin kayo!

Last July 12, 2025, the academic and non-academic organizations of Ateneo de Zamboanga University, through the initiative of the Students’ Initiative for Nationalist Approach in Governance (SINAG-AdZU) and in partnership with the Solidarity of Leaders (SOL-AdZU) and El Consejo Atenista (ECA), held the roundtable discussion “Usaping Bayan: Matatag nga ba ang Ateneo de Zamboanga University?” at the El Consejo Atenista Office.

Representatives from various student organizations gathered to discuss pressing campus issues. The event fostered open dialogue and collaborative efforts to improve campus safety and disaster resilience, in celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month. This initiative reflects the strong commitment of Ateneo’s student organizations to build a safer and more prepared campus community.

READ | STATEMENT ON THE UNJUST KILLING OF TRANS HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDER ALI MACALINTAL

Just yesterday, June 23, 2025, transgender and human rights advocate and media professional Ali "Toti" Macalintal was gunned down in General Santos City, South Cotabato. As a human rights defender, Ali was previously the deputy secretary-general of KARAPATAN SOCCSKSARGEN, former radio broadcaster of RPN XDX, and became part of heading fact-finding missions during then-President Rodrigo Duterte's administration and martial law period in Mindanao.

We, the undersigned student organizations of Ateneo de Zamboanga University, vehemently condemn the unjust and inhumane murder of Ali: a q***r and human rights advocate and a fearless media worker.

Despite June being a commemoration of Pride Month–a month of celebrating our q***r brothers and sisters–her murder not only speaks volumes of the number of recorded attacks against press freedom under the current-President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.'s administration, but also of the continuous struggle of our q***r brothers and sisters towards liberation and emancipation against brutal human rights violations, state attacks, and the blatant disregard of LGBTQ+ rights in the country.

As student organizations championing inclusivity and solidarity, we call on our fellow Ateneans to stand against fascism and impunity. We call on a swift and thorough conduct of investigation to bring the perpetrator of Ali's killing to justice.
