The Department of Trade and Industry Region IX (DTI IX) conducted a courtesy visit to the Sulu Provincial Government at the Capitol of the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) of Sulu on October 23, 2026. The delegation was led by Regional Director Al-Zamir I. Lipae, together with Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Director Marlon A. Alabata, Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Director Estrella Roda, Sulu Provincial Director Nagdar U. Sasapan, and DTI IX staff. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Provincial Administrator Edwin Q. Tan, highlighting the importance of fostering strong partnerships and maintaining close coordination between DTI IX and the provincial government in promoting economic development and supporting local enterprises.

During the visit, DTI IX gave a token of appreciation to the PLGU of Sulu in recognition of its valuable support for ZAMPEX 2026. The gesture acknowledged the provincial government’s commitment to promoting local products, showcasing Sulu’s rich cultural heritage, and providing opportunities for local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to expand their market reach. The courtesy visit further strengthened the partnership between DTI IX and the PLGU of Sulu, reinforcing their shared commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs and advancing economic development in the province.

The Department of Trade and Industry Region IX (DTI IX), through its Sulu Provincial Office, conducted the review and validation of coconut industry baseline data as part of the Coconut Industry Baseline Assessment and Data Development for CFIDP Implementation in Sulu on October 23, 2026. Division Chief Timhar Timplahan, representing Provincial Director Nagdar U. Sasapan, together with the DTI-Sulu staff, led the presentation of key information on the province’s coconut industry to establish a clearer picture of its current status, production capacity, and development needs. The activity also provided an opportunity to assess existing industry information and determine the areas requiring further validation and improvement.

The discussion covered the volume of coconut production, available National Coconut Farmers Registry System (NCFRS) registration data by local government unit (LGU), and the identification of banner coconut products for 2026–2028. The review aimed to validate existing information, identify data gaps, and establish a reliable baseline to support evidence-based planning and the effective implementation of CFIDP programs and initiatives. These efforts are expected to help identify priority interventions, strengthen assistance for coconut farmers and coconut-based enterprises, and recognize opportunities to improve product development and market competitiveness, contributing to the sustainable growth of Sulu’s coconut industry.

As part of the Coconut Industry Baseline Assessment and Data Development Forum for the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) implementation in Sulu, Virginia P. Arreza from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG) Sulu shared valuable insights on the identification of data gaps, priorities, information requirements, and areas for further assessment. Her presentation highlighted the importance of gathering accurate and relevant information to establish a clearer understanding of the current state of the coconut industry in the province.

The discussion emphasized the need to identify information gaps and prioritize data requirements that will support evidence-based planning and decision-making for CFIDP implementation. The Department of Trade and Industry Region IX successfully conducted the 2026 4th Executive Committee (ExCom) Meeting on October 22, 2026, in Sulu, led by Regional Director Al-Zamir I. Lipae. The program opened with a welcome message from Provincial Director Nagdar U. Sasapan of DTI-Sulu, followed by the opening remarks of Regional Director Lipae, who shared updates on key regional programs, projects, initiatives, and organizational priorities. The meeting was attended by Assistant Regional Director Maridel D. Dengal, provincial directors, division chiefs, and DTI IX staff, who gathered to discuss operational developments and strengthen coordination across the region.

The meeting covered the approval of the agenda, matters arising from the previous meeting, updates from Regional Director Lipae and Assistant Regional Director Dengal, and provincial reports from Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Sulu. The Provincial Directors and representatives presented updates on their respective offices' programs, accomplishments, issues, and concerns. Discussions also included Quality Management System updates, other matters, and announcements. The day's activities concluded with a closing message from Assistant Regional Director Maridel D. On Day 1 of the Jobs and Labor Market Forecast 2027–2028, the Department of Trade and Industry Region IX (DTI IX), represented by Ehsan Abdulla, TIDA of the Industry Development Division, participated in the activity held at Palacio del Sur, Zamboanga City, on October 21, 2026. The program opened with a message and rationale from DOLE Regional Director Albert E. Gutib and featured discussions on labor market scenarios, the development of the Jobs and Labor Market Forecast Report, and the 2025 Labor Market Profile. Participants also conducted thematic workshops to identify potential workforce challenges related to underemployment, climate vulnerability, AI and digital disruption, workforce development, and equity and inclusion.

During the second session, Ehsan Abdulla presented the champion industries in Region IX, highlighting key industries that can contribute to employment generation and regional economic growth. The activity also featured presentations on municipal and regional development priorities, followed by workshops and plenary discussions to develop and consolidate provincial and regional workforce scenarios toward 2030. DTI IX’s participation underscored its commitment to strengthening industry development and aligning workforce planning with emerging labor market demands and regional economic priorities.

The Department of Trade and Industry Region IX (DTI IX), represented by Rodessa Tributante, TIDS of the Industry Development Division, participated in the DA-LGU-CSO Stakeholders Consultation cm Joint Planning Exercise for FY 2028 Priority Programs, Activities, and Projects (PAPs), with the theme “Harmonizing Local Priorities with Regional and National Framework Para sa Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas.” The activity gathered key officials and representatives from government agencies, local government units (LGUs), and civil society organizations (CSOs) to discuss development priorities, strengthen coordination, and ensure that proposed programs address the needs of local communities.

The consultation included discussions on the FY 2028 Plan and Budget Proposal guidelines, AMIA Decision Support Tools, budget comparisons, and technical vetting of priority programs. Participants also exchanged insights, raised clarifications, and provided feedback to refine proposed initiatives and align them with local, regional, and national development goals. DTI IX’s participation reaffirmed its commitment to inter-agency collaboration and inclusive planning in support of sustainable agricultural development, stronger local economies, and improved community welfare.
