The Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) informs all residents of Barangay Bunguiao that water service will be temporarily unavailable today due to damaged water pipes requiring immediate repair.

Water service will be restored as soon as the necessary repairs are completed.

PHOTO HIGHLIGHTS | Barangay Bunguiao celebrates 48th National Disability Rights week.

Barangay Bunguiao proudly joined the celebration of the 48th National Disability Rights Week, August 20, 2026 with the theme: “Rights First, Legislation Forward – Strategic Action for Equal Participation and Inclusive Development.”

The celebration was made successful through the collective efforts of the Barangay Bunguiao Persons with Disability (PWD) Sector, led by its President, together with the Bunguiao Barangay Council headed by Punong Barangay Hon. Leo A. Resurreccion, the PWD Focal Person, Kgd. Marilou P. Colorado, personnel from the CSWDO, and all members of the PWD sector.

The event was filled with joy, camaraderie, and appreciation.Some members proudly showcased their talents, while a raffle draw brought excitement and smiles, with many participants going home with prizes. Everyone also enjoyed a bring-and-share meal, creating a warm atmosphere of friendship, unity, and togetherness.

More than just a celebration, this gathering served as a reminder that persons with disabilities are valued, respected, and an important part of our community. Their talents, voices, participation, and contributions deserve recognition and equal opportunities.

We are truly blessed and grateful for the continued active participation and unwavering spirit of our PWD sector members. May we continue building a community where no one is left behind and everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute, and thrive.

AVISO PUBLICO DESDE EL ZCPO| The ZCPO will conduct a Simulation Exercise (SIMEX) involving an Active Shooting Incident on August 21, 2026 starting at 1 PM. This exercise will cover the area of Tumaga Elementary School, Tumaga, Zamboanga City.

The public is advised to remain calm and avoid panic, as this is part of a simulation exercise. Kindly report any suspicious activities or incidents to the nearest police station on any acts that are beyond this exercise.

Barangay Bunguiao extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Ateneo de Zamboanga University, through the Ateneo Zamboanga-Mindanao Institute, for hosting the visit of Dr. Carlos Yebra López, Assistant Professor of Spanish Linguistics at California State University, Fullerton.

Dr. López holds a Ph.D. in Spanish Languages and Literatures from New York University. He specializes in critical applied linguistics, heritage language pedagogy, and the AI-mediated revitalization of minoritized languages, with a particular research focus on Ladino and Chavacano. He is also the author of Decolonizing Spanish: Ladino and Chavacano as Sites of Global Hispanophonia (2022) and Ladino on the Internet (2024).

As part of his research on the preservation and vitality of Chavacano, Dr. López conducted interviews with local residents to better understand the nuances of our rich linguistic heritage. Out of the 98 barangays in Zamboanga City, Barangay Bunguiao was chosen as one of the key sites for this significant activity due to our community’s strong familiarity, active use, and preservation of the Chavacano language!

A total of 10 local residents were interviewed during the visit, which was conducted in the presence of Punong Barangay Hon. Leo A. Resurreccion alongside members of the Bunguiao Barangay Council.

We are deeply honored to contribute to the global academic landscape and showcase Bunguiao as a vibrant home of the Chavacano language!

AVISO PUBLICO| Classes at all levels, both public and private schools in the city, REMAIN SUSPENDED on Thursday, August 20, 2026, to give way for the conduct of campus-wide anti-dengue measures amid the dengue epidemic declaration in the city.

The suspension is also due to the high heat index which hits extreme caution level per latest PAGASA bulletin.

Nonetheless, government services and business operations continue as usual.

School authorities are advised to use other learning modalities to ensure continuous education despite class interruptions.

The public is continuously advised to practice safety measures amid the dangerously high heat index.

AVISO PUBLICO| The public is advised about the conduct of KALASAG-ZC Inter-Agency Territorial Defense Operations Exercise (IATDO-E) on THURSDAY, AUGUST 20, 2026 starting at 7am to 12noon at the Zamboanga Economic Zone and Freeport Authority in San Ramon, barangay Talisayan.

There will be three (3) scenarios that will take place at the waters off the Ecozone seaport, and in some buildings inside the Ecozone complex. The exercise involves live firing and explosives drills.

The exercise, themed “One City, One Mission, One Purpose” aims to strengthen inter-agency coordination and government response for territorial defense, disasters and calamities and crisis management, the advisory stated.

This is purely a simulation exercise and NOT an actual combat operation. The public is advised to remain calm and proceed with normal daily activities.

HOLIDAY ADVISORY| WEDNESDAY, August 26, 2026 is declared a Muslim Legal Holiday in observance of Mauluddin Nabi or birthday of Prophet Mohammad S.A.W., pursuant to Presidential Decree 1083 otherwise known as Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines.

In a memorandum issued by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos-Region 9, Regional Director Rhoaisa Matolo-Mukaram, JD said the holiday will be observed in the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sulu, Tawi-tawi, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur, and in the cities of Cotabato, Iligan, Marawi, Pagadian, and ZAMBOANGA CITY, "and in such other Muslim Provinces and Cities as may hereafter be created."

The August 26 (Wednesday) Muslim Holiday is in addition to the holidays set on Friday, August 21 (Ninoy Aquino Day) and on Monday, August 31 (National Heroes' Day), based on Proclamation No. 1006 issued in 2025 by President Bongbong Marcos.
