Held on May 20, 2026, at the MISTO Conference Room, WMSU, IEC materials were further enhanced through the training workshop spearheaded by the Inclusive Science for Livelihood in Agri-Aqua in Small Islands (ISLA) Project and the Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE), in partnership with WESMAARRDEC and the Agri-Aqua Technology Business Incubator (ATBI).
Incubatees and science communicators from various partner agencies such as BFAR, ZSCMST, the NICER Project, ABH, IPTBM, and the Colleges of Nursing and Engineering of WMSU were trained in "Canva basics and IEC materials development" to effectively communicate simplified and laymanized scientific information.
The training was facilitated by resource speakers Ms. Kimberly Joy R. Kilat, WESMAARRDEC SciCom Cluster Coordinator, and Asst. Prof. Cedrick S. Zabala, graphic artist from the Office of Quality Assurance of Western Mindanao State University (WMSU).
Content creation and publication materials were further strengthened through a session on “Intellectual Property Rights and Proper Use of Digital Content,” delivered by Engr. Arvic S. Francisco, IPTBM-ITSO Manager of WMSU.
The activity not only challenged the creativity of the participants but also enhanced their skills in science communication through well-crafted IEC materials.
WESMAARRDEC supports initiatives like this that promote accessible, understandable, and simplified science information for wider reach and more effective technology transfer.
