As the Philippine Navy celebrates its 128th Founding Anniversary, the Western Mindanao Naval Command (WMNC) opened its doors to the public and conducted community-oriented activities that reflect the Navyβs enduring commitment not only to maritime security and national defense, but also to the welfare of the Filipino people and the protection of the environment.
On 28 May 2026, WMNC, through Naval Task Force 61, conducted an Open Ship Tour aboard its naval vessels, welcoming stakeholders, students, youth leaders, reservists, and partner organizations. The activity provided participants with a firsthand appreciation of the capabilities, readiness, and professionalism of Navy personnel who continuously safeguard the maritime interests of the nation and maintain peace and stability across Western Mindanao.
Guests from the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Estrellas de Zamboanga Chapter, the Supreme Student Council Society of the Philippines β Zamboanga City Chapter, and various Naval Reserve Officers' Training Corps (NROTC) units were given the opportunity to interact with sailors and learn more about the Navyβs mission, values, and contributions to nation-building.
Participating NROTC units included the 613th NROTC Unit (AFF), 632nd NROTC Unit (MSU Tawi-Tawi), 613th NROTC Unit (MIT), 610th NROTC Unit (ZPPSU-Siay), 628th NROTC Unit (Iligan City), 677th NROTC Unit (JRMSU Dapitan), 610th NROTC Unit (ZPPSU Main), 627th NROTC Unit (Universidad de Zamboanga), 627th NROTC Unit (ZSCMST), 677th NROTC Unit (Siocon), and 612th NROTC Unit (NDJC).
Complementing the Open Ship Tour, personnel of the 1st Boat Attack Division conducted a coastal cleanup activity at Naval Station Romulo Espaldon on 23 May 2026. The initiative underscores the Navyβs recognition that protecting the maritime domain extends beyond securing the seasβit also involves preserving the coastal and marine environment that sustains communities and future generations.
These activities highlight the Philippine Navyβs holistic approach to service. While remaining steadfast in defending the nationβs sovereignty and maritime interests, WMNC likewise promotes environmental stewardship, strengthens partnerships with communities, and fosters greater public awareness and trust in the Navyβs mission.
As it marks 128 years of honorable service, the Philippine Navy continues to demonstrate that its commitment goes beyond the mission. Through the men and women of WMNC, the Navy remains a reliable guardian of the seas, a responsible steward of the environment, and a trusted partner of the people in advancing peace, security, and development throughout Western Mindanao.
