Punjab’s Waste Management Model Gains Global Recognition

The Suthra Punjab Project is now being appreciated at the international level. The vision and initiatives of Chief Minister Punjab are gaining global recognition.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Punjab has established one of the world’s largest solid waste management systems in just eight months. Today, 50,000 tons of waste are being collected daily across the province.

In Phase 2, this waste will be transformed into valuable resources under the Waste-to-Value model. Even Forbes has acknowledged and appreciated this modern waste management system at the global level.

🌍 Modern Waste Management in Punjab

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced a modern, province-wide waste management system, directing all markets, malls, commercial centers, government offices, and educational institutions to install color-coded waste bins in line with international standards.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will take action against institutions that fail to comply.

Color-Coded Bins:
🟡 Yellow: Paper & packaging
🟢 Green: Bottles, glass & lab waste
⚪ Grey: Organic waste (food scraps, peels, leaves)
🔴 Red: Metal waste
🟠 Orange: Plastic waste

This system promotes recycling, reduces waste, and supports eco-friendly practices.
Institutions may contact the Punjab Waste Management Helpline (1139) for collection services.

The LGCD Department will manage the implementation, while the EPA ensures enforcement.

This initiative aligns Punjab with global environmental standards and advances the UN Sustainable Development Goals for cleaner, greener cities.
