Forest Department Gilgit-Baltistan Takes Strong Notice of Alleged Illegal Cutting in Jutial Nallah, Haramosh Forests

The Forest, Parks & Wildlife Department Gilgit-Baltistan, has taken serious notice of the issue circulating on social media regarding alleged illegal cutting of forest trees in the Haramoosh–Jutial Nallah forest area of Gilgit Forest Division. The matter gained public attention after videos and reports went viral on Facebook and other platforms, raising concerns about the protection and conservation of forests.

Acting promptly Secretary Forests wildlife and environment directed Chief Conservator Forests to inquire into the matter. An Inquiry Committee of 4 officers was constituted through on 15th May 2026 under the chairmanship of Dr. Jibran Haider, Divisional Forest Officer by the CCF GB
The committee conducted an extensive field visit across the entire forests of Jutial Nallah and carried out a comprehensive inspection of the affected areas spending two days in area. During the inquiry process, the team verified facts on ground, collected field data, interacted with local stakeholders, and gathered GIS-based pictorial evidence to determine the nature and extent of the alleged illegal activities.
The inquiry team has submitted its detailed report along with cogent recommendations.
The department reiterates that all delinquent officers/officials found involved through negligence, misconduct, facilitation, or failure in protection duties shall be proceeded against strictly under relevant rules and disciplinary laws. Likewise, all offenders involved in illegal cutting, transportation, or trade of forest produce shall be booked under applicable forest and criminal laws without any leniency.
The department maintains a zero-tolerance policy against illegal encroachment, timber mafia activities, and destruction of natural forests. The department is determined to make this case an example for the future so that no individual or group dares to compromise the ecological wealth and environmental security of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Forest Department remains fully committed to safeguarding these invaluable natural assets through strict enforcement, modern monitoring mechanisms, and community participation.
The public is also encouraged to cooperate with the department by reporting any illegal cutting or suspicious activities affecting forests and wildlife resources across Gilgit-Baltistan.

The monitoring team of the Up-Scaling Green Pakistan Programme, under the Ministry of Climate Change, visited Ghanche Division to review plantation sites and nurseries established during FY 2024–2025.

During the visit, the team expressed satisfaction over the overall progress, quality of plantation activities, and effective management of the project. The monitoring team appreciated the efforts of the concerned departments and field staff in successfully implementing the programme in the region.

The team further emphasized that such green initiatives play a vital role in environmental protection, climate resilience, and promoting sustainable development in Ghanche District.

سرو کو ایسی جگہ پر لگائیں جہاں پانی نہ جمع ہوتا ہو، یعنی خُشک ڈھلوان، یا بلند جگہ۔

Departmental team delivered a dominant performance in the Marka Haq Jashn-e-Baharan Inter Departmental Tournament by winning both the Volleyball and Cricket matches in style.

The volleyball team secured a clean sweep victory with a convincing 2-0 win, while the cricket team chased down a target of 69 runs in just 3.2 overs without losing a wicket.

A special appreciation for Abdul Salam RFO, who played a brilliant innings of 52 runs and led the team to a remarkable victory.

Congratulations to the entire departmental team for their outstanding performance, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
