World Bank calls on SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu
Mr. Isfandyar Zaman Khan, Practice Manager, World Bank, called on SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu as part of the World Bank’s ongoing mission to Pakistan. Mr. Khan briefed the Chairman on the World Bank’s current priorities for financial and private sector development, capital market deepening, long-term finance, competitiveness, and private sector-led growth for job creation.
Discussions focused on debt market development, reforms in the insolvency regime to unlock lending to the private sector, and ongoing projects related to the development of the microfinance and insurance sectors.
Dr. Kabir appreciated the World Bank’s strategic cooperation extended to Pakistan and highlighted the importance of creation of Tribunals under the SECP Act, noting that this key reform has the potential to greatly enhance investor confidence in the country’s corporate and financial sectors.
