With my colleague and dear friend, the Deputy Head of Mission of Indonesia, during a stimulating discussion on our common project, “The Spice Sea Route and Settlement in the Indian Ocean.”

The Indian Ocean has for centuries been a bridge connecting peoples, cultures and civilizations. The historic spice routes were not merely channels of trade, but also pathways through which ideas, traditions, languages and communities travelled and settled across the region.
We discussed over the rich historical connections between Mauritius, Indonesia and the wider Indian Ocean world, and the possibilities of bringing this shared heritage to greater international attention.

Riphah was one of those Universities having a campus in Mauritius a few years back.
Our discussions focused on strengthening academic cooperation, research, innovation, student and faculty exchanges, and possibility for renewed collaboration between Mauritius and Pakistan in the field of higher education.
