Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) for the Province of Sindh is established under Sub-Section (i) of Section 15 of the National Disaster Management Ordinance 2006, with following terms of reference:-

* Formulate the provincial disaster management policy obtaining the approval of the Provincial Commission;

* Coordinate and monitor the implementation of t

he National Policy, National Plan and Provincial Plan;

* Examine the vulnerability of different parts of the province to different disasters and specify prevention or mitigation measures;

* Lay down guidelines to be followed for preparation of disaster management plans by the Provincial Department and District Authorities;

* Evaluate preparedness at all governmental or non-levels to respond to disaster and enhance preparedness;

* Coordinate response in the event of disaster;

* Give directions to any Provincial department or authority regarding actions to be taken in response to disaster;

* Promote general education, awareness and community training in this regard;

* Provide necessary technical assistance or give advice to district authority and local authorities for conveying out their functions effectively;

* Advice the Provincial Government regarding all financial matters in relation to disaster management;

* Examine the construction in the area and if it is of the opinion that the standard laid down have not been flowed it may direct the same to secure compliance of such standards;

Ensure that communication systems are in order and disaster management drills are being carried out regularly; and Perform such other functions as may be assigned to it by the National or Provincial Authority.

PDMA Sindh Issues Alert for Light Drizzle in Coastal Areas and Tharparkar

Karachi: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh has issued an alert regarding the possibility of light drizzle/light rain in the coastal areas of Sindh and Tharparkar district, in light of the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s forecast.

According to the Meteorological Department, during the next 24 hours, the coastal belt and some areas of Tharparkar are expected to remain partly cloudy, with a possibility of light drizzle.

PDMA Sindh has directed the district administrations and relevant departments to closely monitor the situation and ensure necessary precautionary measures.

Sindh Government has handed over relief supplies to Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi for families affected by the devastating floods in Chitral.

The relief consignment includes 400 ration bags, 400 tents, 400 kitchen sets, 18 water filtration plants, 30 water tanks and 2,000 blankets. Assistance is being provided under the special directives of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

Sindh Government and PDMA Sindh stand firmly with the flood-affected people of Chitral and will continue to support their relief and rehabilitation efforts.

PDMA Board’s 24th Meeting – Second Phase | Key Decisions & Approvals

Karachi, August 7, 2026: The second phase of the 24th meeting of the PDMA Board was held under the chairmanship of Advisor for Rehabilitation and Chairman PDMA Board, Gyan Chand Esrani. The meeting reviewed various agenda items and approved several important measures to strengthen disaster preparedness, emergency response, and operational capacity across Sindh.

The Board approved budget for PDMA Sindh, along with third-party inspection of relief supplies available in PDMA warehouses and framework contracts for procurement of items required to meet operational needs.

The Board also decided to seek recommendations from relevant departments regarding the procurement of rescue drones for emergency response. The drones will support firefighting, real-time monitoring, aerial surveillance of disaster-affected areas, water-based rescue operations, and timely information gathering during emergencies.

Other key decisions included sending a summary to the Chief Minister Sindh for financial assistance to the family of a mechanic who passed away during service, and the formation of a committee to assess staffing requirements for effective year-round operations, with recommendations to be submitted within 15 days.

Chairman PDMA Board Gyan Chand Esrani emphasized that all future supplies provided by vendors must undergo proper inspection and quality assessment. He further directed that all procurements and services must be carried out in accordance with Sindh Public Procurement Rules (SPPRA Rules) and the principles of transparency.

The meeting focused on strengthening coordination, preparedness, and response measures among federal and provincial disaster management authorities to effectively address monsoon-related risks across Pakistan.

PDMA Board holds board meeting.
The 24th PDMA Sindh Board Meeting was chaired by Advisor to the Chief Minister Sindh for Rehabilitation, Gyan Chand Esrani, to review disaster preparedness, relief resources, financial planning, and digital beneficiary management.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Rehabilitation Rafiq Mustafa Sheikh, DG PDMA Sindh Syed Salman Shah, DG Rescue 1122 Wajid Sibgatullah Mehar, Director Admin & Finance Syed Shah Hussain Shah, Director Operations Syed Shayyan Shah, along with senior officials from the Finance, Local Government, Irrigation, Auqaf & Religious Affairs, Health Departments, Board of Revenue, and other relevant government departments.

The Board reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening PDMA Sindh as a modern, transparent, and responsive disaster management institution.

Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah chaired a high-level meeting at PDMA Sindh Headquarters to review the ongoing rainfall situation, emergency response, and preparedness across the province.

The meeting was attended by Advisor to the Chief Minister on Rehabilitation Gyan Chand Esrani, Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Hyder Shah, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Secretary Rehabilitation Rafiq Mustafa Sheikh, DG PDMA Sindh Syed Salman Shah, DG Rescue 1122 Wajid Sibghatullah, and other senior officials.

The Chief Minister directed all Deputy Commissioners, PDMA Sindh, the Local Government Department, and district administrations to remain on high alert, emphasizing that the protection of citizens' lives and property is the government's top priority and that no negligence will be tolerated.

He also ordered the acceleration of rescue, relief, drainage, and dewatering operations in rain-affected areas, while directing immediate assistance for affected families and a comprehensive assessment of damages.

During the briefing, Advisor Gyan Chand Esrani informed the Chief Minister that the highest rainfall recorded during the last 24 hours was:

🌧️ Kunri – 149 mm
🌧️ Kaloi – 140 mm
🌧️ Diplo – 135 mm
🌧️ Kot Ghulam Muhammad – 133 mm
🌧️ Latifabad – 114 mm
🌧️ Mithi – 106 mm
🌧️ Dhali – 104 mm
🌧️ Hyderabad Rural – 93 mm
🌧️ Hyderabad City – 89 mm

DG PDMA Sindh Syed Salman Shah informed the meeting that dewatering pumps are being deployed on the requests of Deputy Commissioners, including:
β€’ Hyderabad – 5 pumps
β€’ Umerkot – 3 pumps
β€’ Mirpurkhas – 2 pumps
β€’ Tando Muhammad Khan – 2 pumps
β€’ Diplo – 2 pumps

Additionally, 10 dewatering pumps are being deployed at low-lying areas and underpasses across Karachi to support drainage operations.

PDMA Sindh remains fully committed to safeguarding lives and property through coordinated emergency response and timely relief efforts.
