School Education & Literacy Department, Government of Sindh, in collaboration with UNICEF and Khan Academy Pakistan, successfully concluded the closing ceremony of Khanmigo, Pakistan’s first AI-powered online teacher training programme, in Karachi.
Mr. Zahid Ali Abbasi, Secretary, SE&LD, graced the event as Chief Guest and reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to leveraging Artificial Intelligence for teacher development and improved learning outcomes across Sindh. He also distributed certificates among teachers who successfully completed the programme. Dr. Fouzia Khan, Chief Executive Advisor, Curriculum Wing, SE&LD, highlighted the successful journey and achievements of the project.
The six-month pilot programme equipped public-school teachers of Grades 1–8, along with faculty members from key teacher education and regulatory institutions, including PITE, STEDA, DCAR and Teacher Training Institutions (TTIs), with practical AI-enabled teaching skills. The programme was implemented in the Sindh Learning Programme (SLP) focus districts—Dadu, Tando Allahyar, Tharparkar and Umerkot—and later expanded to Karachi, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas.
The closing ceremony was attended by representatives from SE&LD’s allied institutions, UNICEF, regional and district education officials, development partners, and other stakeholders. The event reaffirmed a collective commitment to harnessing emerging technologies, strengthening teacher professional development, and advancing quality, inclusive and equitable education across Sindh.
